Hypocrisy is not a Virtue

Politicians and hypocrisy share a link,
“Pollies” can change position in an eyelid’s blink.
Perhaps to say one thing and then do another
Could brand one a hypocrite, a shame to his mother
To get one’s vote politicians will flatter,
Then, when voted in, say it does not matter.
Campaign promises can be broken quite quickly
Leaving hopes sorely dashed, confidence prickly

The Contester for the seat of Doncaster
Was a scholarly chap, an ex school master
His nomenclature was Godfrey Beamish
With a forbidding air, not for the squeamish
This electorate included many not bright,
Indeed some bore resemblance to a troglodyte.
On election day he stood by the gate
To shake hands with voters, there he’d wait.
It all went well, the first hour he survived
Until Mr Clodwit, a pig farmer, arrived.
Clodwit didn’t have time to wash really well
And now he certainly emitted a foul smell.
When Godfrey bent, his hand to shake
Foul smelling mud did quickly cake
His scholarly fingers, clean and white
Godfrey looked down and screamed in fright
“Sorry ‘bout that”, Clodwit quickly retorted
“Working the land, hygiene is ‘oft thwarted”
Cunningly he added (for he was a smart squirt.)
“If you’re to be in politics, get used to the dirt.”

The consideration to be taken in here
Is follow your work without favour or fear
But hypocrisy avoid, or at least do try,
Remember dirt is all clean in a pigsty!
Whereas politics dirt is dirty indeed,
Motivated by selfishness, ego and greed.
