THE INVENTOR

Cuthbert was never, never a dissenter,
When it came to the role of an inventor.
He would happily devise new apparatus,
That would provide useful function for all of us.
He would merrily conjure up, yes, originate,
A novel idea and then work hard to fabricate,
Until there it was, so bright and shiny,
A useful thing-a-me-bob, to sail the briny.
Yes, a new concept of boating, upon the sea.
A boat with no sails or engine. How could this be?
Of course, his fan base loudly roars,
He’s invented a boat powered by oars!

Now Cuthbert was on his way to buy a Bentley,
When a friend thought he should be let down gently,
“Cuthbert, my friend, oars are not a new innovation,”
“They’ve been around for many a generation!”
Cuthbert now wondered how he could have so badly slipped up.
When he reached for consolation in his tea cup.
As he lifted the cup and saucer to his lips,
His hand made a couple of unfortunate slips.
The cup departed from the saucer and fell to the ground,
Causing Cuthbert to have an idea that would astound.
He’d invented a saucer fixed to a cup!
It would be very stable, on the up and up!
At last an idea that was unique and truly latent,
And so he went off to the office to patent.
