BEASTLY TALES

THE PILLORY

There was Crinton Hillary,
Justly locked in the pillory.
She hadn’t been very wise,
Always telling big, big lies,
Her opposition she did criticise,
Often under false guise
Now the populace threw pies
Of varying flavours and size.
Some splashed in her eyes,
That got a very real rise,
Not part of the prize.
Should sever all ties.
Oh, here come the flies.
There are more lows than highs.

Yes, the pillory was more than cruel,
It’s purpose was to make a real fool,
Of the offender contained in it’s grip.
With the aid of cruel people with offal they’d drip.
The offender was exposed to public ridicule,
It must have been like going to school.
If this punishment seemed so very severe,
It certainly does appear exceedingly queer.

Thanks for the tips Rich I will put them into practice with my students ... the pillory ahahah! Or will we try teachers?

I'll be working on the stocks soon so you can use those on your students too.

ok tell me when you are ready that I propose them in the council of teachers;)))

It does seem harsh, but maybe if it was still around today there would be a lot less crime. Great poem!

That's true as long as there is real justice with it.

Beautiful piece and the lesson profound. Nice one dear

criticism is very good, what else is written in the form of poetry.
