Looks like now Bleux is on the other end of serving paws.

This is another full detail Toony style YCH commission, this time for Arco_Wolf on Twitter. I'll show you my drawing process for this.

  • Color Folder (Masked to Base Color layer.)
    • 1st Character Folder
      • Quaternary Color layer
      • Tertiary Color layer
      • Secondary Color layer
      • Primary Color layer
    • 2nd Character Folder
      • Quaternary Color layer

• Canvas Prep/Rough Sketch

  Layers Used:

  Canvas Background layer

  Rough Sketch layer

  With a neutral color background already set up and in place, I sketch in rough sketches of the characters and their poses.

• Fine Sketch

  Layers Used:

  Fine Sketch layer

  Then I sketch over the roughs with a finer and more detailed sketch.

Here I highlight the character to auction off for the YCH.

• Lineart

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Lineart layer

  After the winner was determined, I lineart the character in. (I didn't have to really change the placeholder character much since the winner happened to fit the species placeholder. So there was only a few new sketches I had to make before the linearts.)

• Base Color

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Base Color layer

  Select all areas outside the characters' parameters using the contiguous "wizard" selection tool, invert the selection, and then fill the area with a neutral color. (Slightly different color than the canvas backgorund.)

• Primary Color

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Color Folder -> Primary Color layer

  Then draw in the characters' primary colors, making sure not to overlap colors in areas that doesn't belong.

Then mask the color folders down.

• Detail Color

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Color Folder -> 1st Character Folder -> (Folder's color layers)

  Foreground Folder -> Color Folder -> 2nd Character Folder -> (Folder's color layers)

  Then add in the other colors of the characters in their respective folders.

• Shadows

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Shadows layer (Opacity: 50%)

  I add in their shadows.

• Highlights

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Highlights layer (Opacity: 50%)

  Then I add in their highlights.

• Backlights

  Layers Used:

  Foreground Folder -> Backlights layer (Layer Blending Mode: Soft Light)

  Then I add in their backlights.

• Background/Final Check/Final Result

  Layers Used:

  Canvas Background layer

  Background Shadows layer

  (Various layers)

  Then I whiten the canvas background and add in a simple color pattern for the background.

Finally, I just check over the drawing for any errors or missing details.

Then the drawing is completed!
