Are we fish in a tank? My watercolour and wonder at our Online lives

in #art5 years ago

I'm sharing a piece I made a few years ago.

Without the Steemit Chop:

Have others had trouble getting onto Steemit?

I only noticed yesterday later in the day. I normally am only online in the morning. I work on artwork, post things and try to respond and read others posts. However:

Then I Unplug for the remainder of the day.

I just need to, as online life can be not only a time stealer, but can make one feel 'odd'. Feelings of covetousness or the Fear Of Missing Out etc. All of that, which IS built into the system, is just not my bag, so I unplug.

Of course later in the day I like to check in

and yesterday I found I could not access Steemit. I often enjoy my morning coffee over Steemit and saw I it was down still then. Then I read that Facebook and Instagram etc were down a lot for people. What can one do?

It made me realize even more how reliant we all are on the Internet.

I think what most scared me was when I looked up if Steemit was down I saw that you can see who hosts Steemit. When I followed that link it told me Amazon.

So, then I looked that up and I realized HOW much Amazon does host.

I knew they were our new overlords, but heavens I didn't know they HOSTED most of the internet. I suppose we are in the new feudal times in a way.

This sadly sort of put me off my normal morning routine.

And here I spent time online looking up things rather than being able to read and comment on all of you and also found it harder to consider getting to work on some artwork today. It sort of upset the apple cart, as they say.

Thus, sharing this older piece seems safer.

As I'm not even sure, when I am done typing this, if it will be able to be posted or read by anyone.

This piece sort of seems apropos as well

as we are all sort of like fish in a bowl or an aquarium. We are all on display and easily seen by those who 'feed us' and 'keep us alive'. I hope you day is good and that you can visit your online bits of your life.

If you like this piece it is for sale, guess where? You got it, online...Here is the link if you are interested I kind of like it on the phone:

One must be mercantile whilst the market still is open, eh?

If you feel so inclined please upvote, resteem, and by all means leave a comment.

I heard Steemit was one of the social platform that got targeted by the DDOS attack. Some people probably think it's hilarious when they make website stops working? O_o;;

I like the design of this picture :).

Oh really @scrawly ? That's scary. I was wondering what was going on. We've had spotty internet lately as they have been working on the lines all around our town here. I think they must be getting ready for 5g or something, who knows?

Your art is beautiful and vibrant as always Donna.

Something you said in this blog has really hit home for me:

online life can be not only a time stealer, but can make one feel 'odd'. Feelings of covetousness or the Fear Of Missing Out etc. All of that, which IS built into the system, is just not my bag, so I unplug.

I got a post written this morning and I feel much more positive having the rest of the day to focus on the real world. I think I may try your mode of work myself for a while and see how it suits. My biggest problem is that inspiration for writing doesn't always appear on demand... but I'm getting better at letting it flow 🙂

Those coy carp in the painting are so calming. Thanks for sharing your gift.

Thanks @raj808 I'm glad you like it. Yes, giving myself very delinated online/offline parts of my day is pretty important, to me anyway.

@raj808, I can't say for sure whether this would be the case for you, but I've found that my muse shows up for me each day regularly if I do. If I always show up at a certain time or part of my day most days, so does my creativity. Occasionally ideas and such come at other times and I just make quick notes in my phone and pick it up during my usual time. I mention this to you since many others have said this is the case for them too and it really can help to feel like we can harness our muse at will! :-)

I'm having trouble getting onto Steemit since this morning and I also had an issue uploading a post on Ntopaz today. Maybe it's better if I breath some fresh air today :D lol
Beautiful artwork, dear Donna!

Sometimes knowing you don't HAVE to go online can make you feel a joyful lift as if you are 'allowed' to be unplugged and to run about outside and smell the flowers. I hope you did that @silviabeneforti

I love this design, it is so cool, the lovely soft shades and the feeling of flow of the fish

And yes last night and even this morning Steemit has been giving me so any errors its quite frustrating t try and get anything done

It was an odd bit of internet time there wasn't it @tattoodjay ? It seems to be back again, but I guess other sites like fb and such were also affected. Who knows? It's funny how our connectivity is controlled by a few though, sort of scary in a way.

It sure was a bit of a bump in the road , Steemconnect apparently stores the drafts on busy.org, and soemthing change dor happened and the 6 or 7 post drafts I had prepared dissapeared, that was a little annoying lOL

as for farcebook I do not go on there much these days so I didnt even know it was down, but apparently that was a mistake on there part with a change they rolled out, I am sure some people in Facebook are getting grilled at the moment

Love the mermaid sketch AND the fish phone case....really looks good especially for summer.

So, your note about how amazon hosts most of the internet and Steemit - my brain exploded over this! This upsets my apple cart big time...I thought that Steemit at least was free of feeding the google/amazon/facebook greed cycle. Sigh, very depressing and I'm also glad I know, thanks for bringing this to light.

I din't notice the 'off' day, as I was busily processing photos offline and such. But it is a bit scary, and unfortunately shows how reliant we are on all of this in daily life, when it DOES go down. And I suppose it isn't 'if' but 'when', when someone really takes a lot down for a long time. Though on the flip side, I sure do love being on here. Creating and talking with friends. It has become a large piece of my not-that-exciting, which is OK with me, life.
I enjoyed your fish in a bowl analogy. So apropos. I vote on becoming a Plecostomus myself, if I do have a choice in the matter. Used to love those doobers in my aquarium years back. I also greatly enjoyed your lady with a fish tail. Your whimsy always tickles my laugh bones. Well, I hope this finds you happy and well. So glad you are finally back at 'The Hall'. Though I am bummed you said you might re-name it. Though I often seem to be stuck in the past in life. So maybe it's a good thing.
Cheers and a nice Friday night, my friend. And enjoy your gardening, hope it's coming to fruition.

It is true about the oddness that enters your life with social media. Sometimes I just fell wrong. Hard to explain what it really is causing it.
