Hi Steemit family!

In spite of the criticisms towards the artist of which I will speak to you today it seems to me that the controversy is part of the magic of making art, the artist does not make art for himself, but to be interpreted by other people and when this happens we find people who will emit different opinions on a certain author, today it is the turn of Antonio López García. Come with me to discover some important aspects of the life and work of this excellent artist of hyperrealist painting.

Born in Tomelloso in 1936, he is the eldest of 4 brothers of a working family nucleus, from a very young age he felt inclined by the artistic tastes, his uncle Antonio López Torres when seeing the interest of the little Antonio decides to teach him the profession of painting since he developed as such.

In 1949 he moved to Paris, and entered the school of fine arts of San Fernando de Henares, due to his excellent performance he obtained a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education to study in Italy where he continues in his academic training.

Although not all of Antonio López García's painting is hyperrealism, at first it was deeply influenced by the artistic movement Quattrocento, then it has preferences for cubism, but finally it is linked more with realism and finally, it rests on hyperrealism to continue with this artistic genre until today.

Among his themes are both family portraits and objects, you can also notice the interest in painting urban landscapes of the city of Madrid. Antonio himself catalogs his painting as very detailed due to large amounts of time invested in each creation, a mixture of mathematical calculations with the feelings he imprints in each of his works to give him the right feeling and emotions.

Not everything is painting, he also dedicates himself to sculpture among which are the most important ones such as day and night and man and woman.

Among his artistic achievements we have that he is founder of the hyperrealist school in Spain, and is the most notorious representative of the Spanish realism, between his recognition and prizes they are the prize Prince of Asturias, Prize City of Alcala of Arts and Letters, Prize City of Alcala of Arts and Letters, Prize Velázquez of Plastic Arts; Prize City of Alcala of Plastic Arts, to name a few.

One of the most criticized and controversial facts of Antonio is that the royal family of Spain commissioned him a family portrait that according to the artist took 20 years to finish, the painting has been the object of multiple criticisms for the fact that generally, the most experienced artists of hyperrealism do not last more than two months to finish a work, however Antonio claims to have taken 20 years to make a picture that I even personally criticize because it is a cold picture and without feelings, in addition, there are better paintings of hyperrealism that have been finished in just weeks.

source

Even today he still works at 83 years of age, regularly gives training workshops in Pamplona, in addition to giving classes at the University of Navarra since 2006, this is something he has criticized because he says that most of the artists of past times barely gave any training class.

In spite of the negative things due to the criticism of some of his paintings, one cannot deny his work and his dedication to being part of the history of art.
