Collage recycle workshop.
The year was 2011 and the place a private college in my hometown Thessaloniki. After a proposal by the director of the visual arts class we decided to make a workshop to promote recycling in a creative way. I had the idea to recreate the famous portrait of Andy Warhol with one use plastic items. we traced the general lines and then stared gluing the plastic spoons, straws, forks, old cds and pieces of various obscure items. The second stage was to paint it as it had be artistic and not clear at first glance.
The element of surprise is is an effective way to pass a message through art as it is imprinted better to the mind of the viewer.
It was an amazing and very rewarding experience to work with the students. They were creative and had interesting ideas and also very hard working because they stayed longer to finish the artwork out of schedule. I had some problems managing the time frame.
