Earlier this year I was asked to design a tattoo based on the giant wolf known as Fenrir.

Based on 13th century Norse mythology, "Fenrir" a monstrous wolf bound to a boulder by the Norse gods brooded over their cruelty and waited to be set free to devour them.

This was one of the initial rough sketches.

I had tried out a couple different variations but decided to run with the last option.

In the tale The Binding of Fenrir, It's told that the gods raised Fenrir in order to restrain him and prevent him from wreaking havoc throughout the Nine Worlds. He grew to enormous size and incredibly fast, eventually the gods had decided to chain Fenrir up.

Their first two attempts were fruitless. While the cunning gods convinced Fenrir that it was a test of his strength, he broke through the chains easily. For their third attempt, the gods had forged the strongest chain ever built. Fenrir grew suspicious and refused to be bound with it unless one of the gods would stick his arm in Fenrir's mouth as a pledge.

Only one god was brave enough to do this. Sure enough, when Fenrir found himself unable to break free from his bonds, he ripped Tyr’s hand from his limb. The chain was tethered to a boulder and a sword lodged in Fenrir’s jaws to pry them open. As he howled endlessly, a river called “Expectation” flowed from his drooling mouth.

This was not the end of Fenrir. He would break free and run throughout the world with his lower jaw against the ground and his upper jaw in the sky, devouring all that was in his path.

Great line movement. I knew this mythological wolf character as "Fenriz" there is a black metal musician who has his name, now performs doom metal.

Thanks mate, I had to check him out, Darkthrone sounds pretty cool.

Beautiful drawing, Jeremy. I love your artworks. Great style! 🙌

Thank you, appreciated as always!

Wooooooow, such a powerful picture of Fenrir ! I love it !!! He was a beast, ferocious and mighty and I think you captured that in your drawing well, @jeremyrfk !!

Really cool <3 <3 <3

It's a powerful picture, Jeremy. Personally I'm not big looking at a dog fighting its chain, but I understand that this is the expected design. Umm yeah, reading what you wrote about the legend, I guess this is the less gory version compared to the story XD.

Thank you, I was honestly cheering for the wolf, It was not very nice tying him to the boulder like that!
