Just some pictures of a painting session - yesterday. I want to start practising some of my painting skills again and have bought some Chinese paper.

A strange complex symbol I have borrowed from one of my wife's projects were motif of the day.

Chinese ink with the very special perfumed fragrance.

Most of these ends up in the waste bin.

Two little paintings that will survive.

There's something about traditional brushwork in any media, that sexy randomness and organic feel a brush gives. Oh mama! And the smells, of paper, inks, materials. Something digital lacks big time... The experience.

Indeed, I have decided to do this more often. Digital gets the job done, but sometimes you need it not to be a job.

That looks like so much fun but I could see myself making a mess and finding ink splatters all over!

Among my friends I was known to be able to make lithography in a white shirt. By nature I am terribly messy, but there is something almost like a dance about ink painting, so I have learned to include the rest of my body. I did splatter a bit this time as it is a long time since I used the thin Chinese paper, but the table is a kitchen table my grandmother had made with marbled red linoleum surface so you can clean it pretty easily.

Be the stroke before you put your brush to paper, grasshopper.

The marks already exist on the paper, you merely are revealing them, grasshopper ;)

Nice - I know exactly what fragrance you are referring to ;)
