The process.

This is another of my spontaneous painting that derived by a keyword. The word of the day was 'onion' and it was actually quite a challenge to come out with such ordinary and random word into a concept art was more than i though its gonna be. lol. Imagine what can I create with onion so that it could be an epic concept painting.

So i started with the main colour of an onion for a start with some hope it could create a unique and interesting mood. I thought i wanted to concentrate to create the texture of the onion so ive decided to compose a close-up view with a setting in the piece.

Drafted a background for the onion foreground to emphasise the focus of the subject. I also played with contrasting shades to distinguish both.

I tested out some weird colour palette for the piece while detailing out the scenery, the context.

Once ive got the tones and colours to complement the scheme, i started to detail up the textures with highlights and shadows.

And then duplicate the details into the composition. I believe by doing so created the illusion of superb detailing with small amount of works.

Playing out with the composition to create a leading line and depth to enrich the piece.

And lastly, i inserted some silhouette of human scales to enhance with some little magic of perception. By putting the small figures there, the onions were defined as a big huge structure as well as creating some sort of narratives.

Adding some smoke/mist to enhance the ambience to suggest the smelly and smoky feels.
