Art Teacher Reveals Her Secret Technique for Drawing Beautiful LIFELIKE Children's Faces

in #art6 months ago

Alright artists, you ready to take on drawing that cute face staring back at you? Portraits can seem intimidating but I'm here to tell ya - with the right tricks, even a rookie can capture those cherubic cheeks.

First thing's first, loosen up those drawing muscles! Portraits require sharp observation skills so really zone in on your subject. Take note of proportions - where do the eyes fall in relation to the nose? How wide is that smile? Snap some reference photos from different angles too.

Now sketch the basic shapes. Imagine splitting that little face into thirds - draw a horizontal line across the brows and another along the lips/chin. This helps map out features. I like starting with an oval or egg shape for the head first.

Once you have the basic structure, start refining. Draw those eyes! I like to do the iris as an almond shape within a larger circle. Add thick lashes on the top and thinner on the bottom. Keep the eyes proportional - not too big or small.

When drawing kids, their eyes will take up more of their face compared to grownups. Pay attention to small details too, like where exactly eyelashes sprout from the lids.

Blend your pencil strokes when shading. Try blending with a finger or tissue to gradually darken shadows under those brows and around the eyes. Don't overdo it though - keep some areas light.

Add peach or tan flesh tones once you've laid down the structural framework. Blend well so it looks natural. Don't forget rosy cheeks and lips too! Capture that youthful glow.

Have fun with it and don't stress over perfection. With practice those portraits will come to life. Soon everyone will want you drawing their kids. Let me know if you have any other questions!
