LEARNING 3D MODELLING BY MYSELF - STORY TIME

in #art6 years ago

Hello steemit, it's been a while now huh? today i want to tell you, that time when i tried to learn blender...

So first of all what is blender? Blender is a professional, free and open-source 3D computer graphics software toolset used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and video games.
for more info you can visit their website https://www.blender.org/

Ever since i was very young i have dreamed of making my own videogame but i didn't know programming and modelling, so i decided to teach myself (sort of) how to use at least the basics of the software.

Fun fact: i was scrolling down on 9gag and saw a post of a rendered ocean waves, and that's what pumped me up to do it

Internet is a wonderful place, you can find a lot of information, which was useful to me on my learning process, on youtube there's millions and millions of tutorials, but the tutorials series that i used and helped me was the "Blender Guru" series, perfectly explained for beginners and entertaining.

Following the 9 video tutorial will teach you the basics of the program and you will be making a donut with a coffee mug on a wooden table (what? haha)

here's how the donut starts:

the shape that i used to make the donut is a torus, added some vertices and a mask to make it more round, after that created the glazed and with particles added the sprinkles, also added texture and color

here's how the coffee mug starts:

for the coffee mug is the same principle i used a cube, added more vertices, extrude a face to make the handle, and added a mask to make it more round, to make it hollow it was a difficult thing to do, you have to create the edge of the mug first and then move the face down and shrink it a bit, and you have to be careful to not let the faces of the mug touch, otherwise it will start glitching, after that i added texture and color

here's the progression of the project

this is a render of the ongoing project as you can see i added a plate for the donut, but the sprinkles are missing, you can see the mug is actually a mug, i had the make the handle and the hollow, if i had a 3d printer, i could print it, and use it to drink coffee from it hahaha

here's the finished project (beautiful isn't it?)

Not bad for a beginner huh?

thank you very much for taking the time to read my post, is always fun to share my experiences with people, would you like if i tried to make another project on blender? leave your comment, and support me giving a like and sharing, i will see you on my next post, see yaa!!

Ahh the doughnut tutorial!! I started with a coffee mug. Blender is such an amazing tool. The more I use it the more I realize that the most limiting factor in what you can create is your mind, and maybe your GPU. Great job and happy Blending, I'll follow to see what else you can come up with!

Is pretty cool how you can make anything on blender is mind blowing, I had a lot of fun learning how to model, thank you
