Inside the Louvre Museum - 44 photos

in #art6 years ago (edited)

The most intense experience in our holiday in Paris has been surely our visit to the Louvre Museum. We didn't see even half of the collections: it takes too much time for that. The last time I was in Paris, more than 10 years ago, I spent 3 days inside the Louvre.

It is not just a matter of how many artworks there are, and how big is the space. It is also a matter of attention: no one can see so many masterpieces in one time. Our brain simply can't handle it. Specially for people who love art, and who studied those great artworks since their childhood, it is impossible to meet so many of them in one session. Our mind overflows and falls.

So we visited mostly the floors dedicated to greek and roman antiquities, the ancient Mediterranean Art and the Italian Painting.

Before of that, we spent some time in the great garden outside the museum:

Then we entered from the underground gallery of the Carousel du Louvre, where is the Upside-Down Pyramid. I played the fool a little, there. ^^

The Greek and Etruscan sculpture is always something looking magic to me.

We visited also the Art of Islam and the Coptic Egypt rooms.

In the covered yards there is sculpture from different ages. My wife had some rest there, behind the reconstruction of the Temple of Apollo.

The room of the Gioconda was crowded as always. Almost impossible to go near the most famous painting of all times.

The great Crucifixion by Giotto and the Christ by Cimabue were instead very lonely and we could watch them and other Renaissence very well.

In the room of the Italian Sculpture we watched the Nymph with a scorpion by Lorenzo Bartolini.

We need to go to the Louvre again, of course. And we will :)

Nice reportage! I'm especially struck by the "capturing of faces" by the old masters.
