RE: Cellarius: Collaborative Storytelling on the Blockchain

in #art6 years ago

While Cellarius does sounds interesting, their End User Agreement is very restrictive.

Anything you publish on the platform automatically gives a license for ANYTHING the company might ever want to do with your user generated content, including commercial usage. (which is a tad extreme... what about letting users decide which rights they want to grant Cellarius, instead of taking all the rights ?)

meanwhile, you yourself, by using the service (AKA, creating content using Cellarius stories and artwork, etc...), give up any commercial or non-commercial rights not given to you explicitly.

Personally, I'd invite any artists or creators to read the End User Agreement (which is missing from their starter list of documents to read, but accessible as a footnote in the community guide) before deciding whether or not to contribute: End User Agreement for Cellarius

Sort:

but otherwise, yes the project seems very interesting.

It's got an awesome storyline already developed, though a bit on the dystopia side, and the already produces art and styling guide could be very interesting for a coherent story co-created with fans.

It's just... at least be honest about it being open-source.

After reading the different guides I expected to see mentions of Creative Commons, or at least mentions of the creators retaining their copyright and granting a limited non-commercial display license to the company behind Cellarius.

I didn't expect them to grant themselves ALL the rights, commercial including.

It might just be a standard EULA they adapted, but it's not at all adapted to a creative open-source space where the creators are rewarded for their contributions to the system, given the number of rights you give up just to participate.

Really interesting, I was unaware of the copyright restrictions placed on user-generated content, I had believed it was all Creative Commons. We should try to get them to loosen that grip, I don't want artists and authors to be discouraged from contributing because of that.
