Oscar Need to Grow Up

Always wondered why no Oscars coming the Asian countries very often. The crunch of reason behind Oscars always shared by a bunch of few countries alone, who call themselves the masters of this art is surely a kind of shrouded racism. Is it a bit exaggerated or Is that true? I mean Asians, Arabs or Africans are not less creative in this field or do you think they are not technically grown up yet to reach an Oscar? All these seem to be incorrect if we examine closely.

The issue is the great cultural divide. The jury being always oriented towards a uniform western culture who have little or no clue on happenings and issues of other countries or civilization. Sometimes westernized view of other cultures are widely accepted even if they are far from the real essence of it. For example, each time while a movie comes out from Asia symbolizing their own burning issues it is largely over looked and if it comes as Slumdog Millionaire it is accepted and glorified. As far as Asian movies are concerned, due to their rich cultural diversity every movie and its content used to be richly divergent of the other and very often too much colorful as their own civilization is. This issue they highlight are more relevant to social issues in their own territory and westerners are often unable to comprehend its substance fully. Most classic movies coming from Asia focus on social and communal issues while the westerners make most of their movies with an orientation toward s pure entertainment, history and science fiction.

Slum dog millionaire brought the Hollywood version of an Indian slum life modified dramatically to suit western viewers. And that version spontaneously welcomed and gathered a number of Oscars. If any Indian who sees the movie will say that it is just another run of the mill story they had been seeing for years. Not just because the story originally authored by an Indian but same story line in different version is common among Indian movies.

Oscars now need to grow up in a world where borders are shrinking , need to absorb the emerging new global environment and the coming of new scenario of Global leadership. The Oscar need to become more inclusive, truly international and may take a leaf or two from global beauty pageants where it has broken the barriers already and are reaching places where it was never imagined before!!!
