Expressing Ideas through Sketching

We are the artist of our own ideas. Expressing it through sketching is something worth doing and worth the time. It doesn't matter if you have a messy or a plain drawing as long as it is a drawing then it is already an art. Every work is a masterpiece no matter how ugly it may be for others.

A sketch is an executed freehand drawing that is not usually intended as a finished work. In addition, a sketch may serve a number of purposes: first, it might record something that the artist sees, it might also record or develop an idea for later use or it might be used as a quick way of graphically demonstrating an idea, principle or image.

Sketches can be made in any drawing medium. The term is most often applied in a dry medium such as silverpoint, graphite, pencil, charcoal or pastel. But it may also apply to drawings by the use of pen and ink, ballpoint pen, water colour and oil paint. The latter two are generally referred to as water colour sketches and oil sketches.Sketching is the fundamental building block for an artist and the artists at heart. It is used to develop a personal visual vocabulary or serve as your visual imagination. Sketches are visual exercises in problem solving and givea opportunity to:

1. Develop your observational skills
2. Exercise mark-making skills
3. Encourage selectivity
4. Experiment new techniques and expressive possibilities
5. Create compositions and various lighting effects and stuffs.

Sometimes sketches are indecipherable to anyone but the artist, nothing more than scribbles. Other times, they can become a finished artwork. But most of the time, sketches are just products of thoughts or an impression of an idea. For an artist, sketching is the free-est form of the creative process. Sketching is an art form in itself and enlightens the artist’s soul.

Ideas are usually fragile and last just as of the moments. They occur at anytime and sketched, they can disappear quickly. Carrying a sketchbook and pencil or it can be a pen allows the opportunity to capture these ideas you have in your mind.

Be the artist of your own ideas. No matter how untalented you are in that field. Any drawing is an art.
