THE SUITCASE. art object. 2019.
Hi,
I´d like to share with you the making of this piece, that is now part of the show I spoke about in my last post where 14 artist from Ibiza have exhibited their work in Alicante.
I went into the cellar of the old carpentry of my family to look for an old wooden case for one of the old machines but failed to find one I could use. What I did come across, were the drawers of a piece of furniture that was in really bad condition and I suddenly saw the "suitcase" I could make out of it!
I took the two drawers and then had to paint them and find the right long hinge for the back. I did!
Then I had this idea of paneling the two sides differently and making a woodland view at the back.
I was trying to find the right environment to then be able to create and weave a spiderweb connecting all trees and roots.
I wanted to really be able to express the mycorrhiza´s network that communicate the trees in the woodlands.

This was in early January and my studio was too cold and brought the easel into my living room next to the fireplace and Squeeky my cat!
fitting the panels back into the boxes and working out the continuity of the image.
fixing the light system on the box and getting the panels in with the fishing wire and its holes.

I will be varnishing the panels later on. I didn´t have time to have it ready in time. I can do the weaving again!
