Inktober 2018 - Days 24 & 25!!!
Hi Folks!
Today's going to be a two-fer day, which is sweet since I get to cram more process images into this post. I really do enjoy capturing the process as it moves forward knowing that there is no 'undo' key :B
This one was a blast to draw :D I really wanted to make the blades bigger and more asymmetrical, but the page size and my lack of planning got in the way. Regardless, still really love this piece :3
Let's dive into the past!
Roughing. Sometimes I use the standard unsharpened pencil since the larger lead forces me to stick to more rudimentary shapes.
I've been dreading the first phase of inking less and less as the days go by. Maybe a certain sense of confidence has snuck back in after all these years. Not necessarily that I am getting better per se, rather I am feeling much less anxious when starting a new piece. Good News all around!
Time to flesh out those inks >:3 !
Adding the greyscale markers really brings me back to my early days as a concept artist at the turn of the century. There's something inherently playful in the way they can create composite shapes.
Ink brush then helps me establish the highest contrast points along her centre, and having that barred background really anchored the whole piece. It started off as a hunch, so I am glad to see it work out :D <3
This one came a bit out of left field, but I ran with it! Definitely took a lot more liberty in interpreting the theme, but it worked out... interesting. I'm just happy I got to draw those creepy eyes again ;D
Anyhow, rewind!
I actually forgot to take [or deleted, not too sure] a picture of the pencil stage ; w; !
I used a mechanical pencil this time around and went straight the thin inks.
Thicker lines to start hinting at depth and areas of focus~
My second favourite phase: Volumizerization!!
And finally, here we stand, after my favourite phase, you guessed it, brush inking!
As opposed to external framing, I used the brush to fill in chunks of the clothes to provide an internal contrast to section out the body.
Alrighty!!! And that concludes today's show and tell! Thank you so much for looking through this and listening/reading my ramblings!
I am looking forward to chatting again tomorrow!
Cheers!!!
