Patreon suspended my account for "adult content"!

in #art6 years ago

They demanded I delete any images that show even a single nipple, or "implied nudity" - I did, and emailed them, this was yesterday and they still haven't revoked the suspension.

This is my new cover image.

Not sure if the difference between the two can be called "adult content". Certainly not in the land I was raised. And my Patreon is based on the Pinup as an art form! What do you expect? Fully clothed pinups? A contradiction in terms.

Have you seen some of the crappily drawn porn that's being sold on Patreon? Not sure if they're cleaning all that up now, if this is part of a new thing, if so I never got the memo. But lumping my work together with that feels kind of insulting.

Here's another example of something I had to delete:

I've been their loyal customer for four years, and their rules have changed. Now they're stricter than Facebook, where I have been posting lots of the same content without being banned. I've couple hundred American dollars coming to me this month from Patreon, now I'm not sure if I'll receive them, or if my patrons will receive their rewards.

Whatever happens, I've been losing patrons steadily for about a year now, about since when Facebook reached maximum strangulation on their organic growth algorithms. I was almost up to 100, now it's down to 74 and no change in sight. I have about 15,000 "friends" on Facebook on 3 accounts, but I can only reach a handful with each post, and that only by using tricks I've learned from others (use the word "Congratulations" in any language and more people see it, etc).

My opinion is Patreon and Facebook are doomed, and cryptocurrency sites will take over all their business eventually. The inherent lower level of censorship is only one of the reasons of course, organic reach will be higher, has to be - can't be any worse. And we all know there are financial benefits as well. Your money won't have to go through Paypal, like mine does from Patreon, and no one will be taking a cut.

News from dropahead: How to give back to the dropahead Project in 15 seconds or less

It's so weird how prudish these sites are getting. Nudity doesn't equal porn, and if someone wants to draw porn, label it as such and let that be it. The end.

Yeah it's always like ZOMFG SOME BARE SKIN HIDE THE CHILDREN but headshots in slowmo is fine.

We need a censorship-resistant version of Patreon, based on Steem, where you could set up regular donations or periodic upvotes for example.

This, absolutely.

Great idea! I wonder if there's anyone working on this yet.. I have seen a few projects that are SORT of similar.. But.. Hmm.

Exactly, I'm waiting eagerly for this! :) Fundition is close but more like Kickstarter.

I guess when they own the platform, they make the rules. Sorry to hear that...

We still love you and your work!

Thanks! I have many gripes with them about how they're handling their platform, but no use even trying to discuss it with them, it would be like trying to talk to Facebook

Wow, You art is so amazing. I love it so much!

I guess that's a kudos to the quality of your art, if their algorithms can't discern between real nudity and your artworks!

Well, that's just ridiculous. These sites grow at the expense of users... and once those users have "done their job", they quickly discard them and attack them. I've seen that happening in a few platforms already.

Maybe the natural progression of capitalism? When a site grows big enough, like any company or corporation it becomes self-sustainable but also automatically self-sustaining - it takes on a life of its own. No single human in charge anymore, just an emergent mass-behavior.
At first it seems beneficial, like when a star is created if a stellar mass is large enough for gravity to ignite fusion, giving energy and light... and in just the same way, later, if it's big enough, it turns into a black hole and eats light. Even eating other black holes, which only makes it bigger, just like how inevitably in any market eventually monopolies will try to form.

Sorry to hear this @stahlberg we hope here at Dporn we can change some things for people and how they are being censored.

i follow alot of adult artist online and they all have the same complaint patreon is strangling adult content in order to clean there image up dunno why but there are loopholes to surviving it one i heard is not hosting your stuff on pareon but using it as a door to your content also FB and patreon are still a place for artist just that the nsfw ones have it harder and cryptocurrency sites tend to attract les artist and more crypto guys and i think its harder for an artist thats not drawing crypto art to get big

I think artists on crypto website don't get the necessary attention. People want more crylto information or something!

i wanted to say that but didn't wanna look like a know it all and i noticed it too its the whole platform crypto currency is all around us so we naturally wanna see more of it but a creative person makes an interesting art piece and its rarely any upvotes because i have yet to see a dolphine or a orca or whale as an artist

I agree with both of you. Hopefully as more 'average' people come around, a bigger audience for art will also come. Anyway, it can only go up from here. :)

These companies always seem to reach some insane level of censorship eventually. Then, hopefully, there's pushback, and they back off a bit. It's never completely though. Eventually, something comes about with less censorship, and occasionally it takes over. One of the primary reason Twitter became so popular is because of their lax censorship.
