Wonder

I have previously posted some works from a special event called Ekphrasis. This is an art technique where a visual work of art is accompanied with a written piece as well, such as a poem. This special event exhibited collaborations with the two artist communities. I was paired with a most talented poet gifted in writing and slam spoken word. Having attended various open mics, I came across Sha'rol, a powerful black woman respected in the field of poetry, whose words must be heard to be understood. Upon discussing what we should display, she actually already had something in mind. As did I.

“Wonder”

You were blissfully slumbering, until something made you recognize
That the world you thought you knew was not what it appeared to be
With your two eyes
Now you stand awkwardly, placating the confusion and turmoil
Brewing in your soul
And you wander
As you wonder if these broken pieces
Can be made whole
Cemented to a world that is a concrete jungle
You fumble over your shoelaces
As you run towards the empty spaces that allow you to be free
You dance there, wondering, “Is this feeling akin to eternity?”
In this space, you feel the fragments of the big wide world we live in
And you wonder, “Why don't we do more with what we've been given?”
Why must we be parallel with gravity?
Why live in awe of space, as if being weightless causes calamity
Weary with the weight of the world,
Wondering how many more burdens you will carry on your shoulders
Until you become apart of the earth
You stare into the Galaxy
Hoping to catch a reflection of truth
Bouncing off the dust
Connected to the end of a star
But it's too far away to catch more than particles
So you settle for the sun's rays
As you wonder if UFOs
Are harboring earth's fugitives-
Those who have figured out that
Home is wherever you make it
So you make it
A point to wish upon a star
Each time the night falls
And you wonder
If what you wait for
Even exists at all.....

At the time, a calamitous event in society had just taken place, which caused a disruption in an empath's mind. I believe it was a violent occurrence where race was involved. Naturally, I knew she would apply an overall perspective in stating how miniscule and negative these inhumane acts reflect in the grand design. As if it were meant to be, these two pieces of art represented an attempt of higher consciousness that should be seen, read, and heard 'round the world.
Thank you Steemit, for making this possible now, and thank you Sha'rol for providing a voice.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

Naturally, I knew she would apply an overall perspective in stating how miniscule and uncalled for these inhumane acts reflect in the grand design.
It should be minuscule instead of miniscule.
