My Sketch: The Citadel, Cairo

This is a view of the Citadel from below, the most eye-catching focus is the Mosque of Muhammad Ali. This Muhammad Ali was a military commander and later became the viceroy of Egypt in the Ottoman Empire, He was considered as the founder of modern Egypt. His rise to power came after the French withdrawn from Egypt.
A side note on the Napoleon's famous Egypt campaign in 1798–1801. The most remarkable consequence of Napoleon's campaign was that he brought along a huge company of engineers for exploration, which is the beginning of Egyptology. However, many of the antiquities collected by the French from Egypt were in turn seized by the victorious British and ended up in the British Museum. The scholars' research in Egypt eventually produced the Description de l'Égypte, published on Napoleon's orders between 1809 and 1821.

The mosque was completed in 1848 and since is a landmark of Cairo, as you cannot avoid noticing the large mosque so visibly displace on top of the hill.
