Art - Drawing action pose - step by step -

in #art5 years ago

Hello all, today I will share with you a really quick tutorial on how to get the action pose right. I am doing this for 15 years, as an illustrator and/or comic book artist, but do not get me wrong, there is a ton of different ways to approach the subject.

Here we have a sketch of an action character defending, and the high note here is that this is a sketch :

That's the final sketch, it is not looking pretty at all, but here is why

it's the sketch...

the thing to get all the things going

and, the setup here was that we have a character defending himself from someone attacking, but in the same time, attacking back, a bit tricky

here is the process and the thought process:

o1.jpg

Sketch of a sketch, basic lines, done digitally in SAI software with a Wacom drawing pad, like all else

o2.jpg

The lines here represent the backup movement, the clothes, the bombs, hands, etc, but an attack also

o3.jpg

Adding swoosh-es, gust, air, movement of sorts here

o4.jpg

Doing some black lines work, to make it more clear, on what the hell is happening in there

o6.jpg

Shadows, and the white, or brush kick in, to make a scene more clear and ready to be worked on

o7.jpg

Text effect, makes it more alive and Voila, as the French would say, the thing is on the go for drawing and detail work :D

Hope you found this post amusing and/or helpful, have a great day!!!!

Action pose is tricky, but amazing when done right :) I think your tutorial is really great, specially the way it is broken down into steps :)

I hardly ever do action poses myself, since I'm not very used to them at all... This post reminds me to maybe do one (and soon) so thanks for that, Rez :D

Thank you so much, so glad that this has inspired you, it's not that great, just a doodle to get things started :D
