Religion does solve basic human emotional needs but those needs can not be judged as healthy nor unhealthy. They just are. Saying god-based religions are bad is like saying a hammer is bad. It's not the tool that's the issue, It's what we decide to do with it. If you take the bible as straight historical truth then violence occurs. But, if you understand that the Bible is a book of metaphors then it becomes a guide to loving life and giving back to the lives of others.
