THE KING OF POP
The history of Pop Music started to register a glorious change in 1964 when Michael Jackson made his professional debut. Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, U.S. He grew on to become one of the most popular entertainer in the world. He was a singer, songwriter and dancer.
His debut in 1964 was made as a member of Jackson 5 with his four elder brothers. He started his solo career at Motown Records in 1971. After that there was no turning back as he continued to rock the world as a dominant figure in Pop Music. His music videos like "Thriller", "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" are credited for breaking racial barriers. The popularity of these videos has directly and indirectly benefited many related to the Music Industry. For Example : These videos brought a lot of audience for the Television channel MTV.
MJ's album "Bad" came out in 1987 and it thrashed all the records to become the first album to have 5 number-one singles in the U.S. nation. He has given various albums which rank among the best-selling albums of the world. "Thriller" stands out as the best-selling album of all time with estimated sales of over 66 million copies worldwide.
He popularised various dance techniques including the 'robot' and the 'moonwalk'. He was the one who named these dance techniques. Jackson grabbed a number of awards and honours and even held multiple Guinness World Records including "The Most Successful Entertainer of All Time." There are so many awards to his credit that even if I begin to name just half of them; it'll take me more than two hours to type them.
This "Artist of the Century" (one of the titles among 24 American Music Awards) became the best-selling music artist in the year 2009. He left his huge fan-following in utmost shock and agony when he breathed his last on June 25, 2009. He made such a mark that no other performer can ever overshadow. He continues to live in our hearts. Not to mention, the King of Pop is the highest earning deceased artist.
