🎨 Something - original painting

The stupidity of people comes from having an answer for everything. The wisdom of the novel comes from having a question for everything....The novelist teaches the reader to comprehend the world as a question. There is wisdom and tolerance in that attitude. In a world built on sacrosanct certainties the novel is dead. The totalitarian world, whether founded on Marx, Islam, or anything else, is a world of answers rather than questions. There, the novel has no place.

-- Milan Kundera, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting

I remember reading an essay by George Orwell in which he expressed a similar sentiment to your introductory quote: that, historically, the novel has only emerged as a prominent artform in societies with a certain level of intellectual freedom, and, when these societies fell to totalitarianism, the novel was the first form of literature to be suppressed.

Interesting! I've only read 1984 and Animal Farm from Orwell. Thanks for your feedback @thebigwhitevan!

Fascinating painting and great quote from Kundera.

Thank you Kathleen!

I love your forms. And the orange red of the 'machine/being/structure' is amplified by the soft apricot sky. And the reflective surface of the distant ground is enthralling. Is it water with reflection or sun refraction on a hot dry landscape? I love not quite knowing.

Thank you Donna!

Don't speak until you improve the silence...

Absolutely! :-)

WOW !! exceptional. what excellent details and colors. I liked it. feels in another world!

Thank you Ceren!

That really is something isn't it? It makes me want to climb up it to investigate but there's a concern that the legs will crumble and the whole thing will collapse if anyone touches it XD

a lot of talent, a complex and very beautiful work.

Thank you @anasuleidy!

Beautiful painting and I really love that quote

looks like a watcher, like the eye would open up any minute now... ... maybe it's guarding the pool of water behind it?
