The concept of the "Big Bang" is hard to swallow if you are stuck on a linear time frame, i.e. the Biblical narrative. Terence McKenna got it wrong: it is not science, but the Bible that teaches Creatio ex nihilo.
But to me it is a recurring circular event: eventually, the universe, after expansion, will collapse into itself again, and the cycle repeats (Phase Transition).
