If you think back at the campaign and who published tons of damaging materials to the democrats, yes, I guess Trump should see to it that Assange gets to go on with his life, but some of Trump's supportes have a very bad and quite limited oppinion about 'traitors' - so Assange being pardoned or whatever woudn't go down well.

Many of them are deep state corrupt operatives...There is almost no politicians in the Washington right now, not guilty of treachery, in my opinion..
