The Australian town likes cryptocurrencies. Payments with virtual currencies are accepted by dozens of shops

Agnes Water is just a small village in the Australian countryside, yet it claims to be the place that is the most friendly place for cryptocurrencies. There are three dozen businesses, including small shops and cafes, offering the opportunity to pay for different kinds of virtual currencies.

Local people in Agnes Water do admit that at first it was an attempt to make the beautiful but often overlooked part of the Australian countryside, more visible, especially in the heavy competition of the famous beaches of the nearby Great Barrier Reef.

Caleb Yeoh, TravelbyBit Director:

"You can pay from anywhere in the world and you do not have to think about exchange rates or the risk of fraud."

Inspiration offered a small start-up to TravelbyBit. They recently opened the first place at the airport in Brisbane, where you can convert cryptos into Australian dollar.

Owners of bitcoins as a tempting target group

Real estate agent Gordon Christian:

"I believed it was a good strategy for us as a city to catch the world's attention and get tourists from the Great Barrier Reef," Christian said.

Morning coffee can be purchased in cryptos, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Agnes Water is now proud of the sign that it is the first Australian town that "likes cryptocurrencies". In addition to marketing, there is another pragmatic calculation. Despite the great volatility, the best-known cryptocurrency Bitcoin has gone through a huge increase in value in recent years. Bitcoin owners have thus become an appealing target group not only for hoteliers and cafes from Agnes Water.
