There is a monopoly on violence in science, the religious myth of the atom bomb

in #automata6 years ago (edited)

The atomic bomb as a meme, as in, a unit of cultural information, a concept, belief, or practice, that spreads from person to person in a way analogous to the transmission of genes, can be traced to 1913, and H.G Wells science fiction story The World Set Free,

"Never before in the history of warfare had there been a continuing explosive; indeed, up to the middle of the twentieth century the only explosives known were combustibles whose explosiveness was due entirely to their instantaneousness; and these atomic bombs which science burst upon the world that night were strange even to the men who used them. "

In March 1935 Herbert George Wells had lunch with US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and 6 years later, president Roosevelt orders the nation to move forward with the top-secret Manhattan project.

What could cause neurosis in the scientific process?

That science has been in a "rigid condition" in the past 60 years, points to that there is a cause for that, and a monopoly on violence is what causes neurosis, which means that there should be a monopoly on violence within science as a culture. In the early 1900s, Nikola Tesla talked about that gravity was electromagnetic, which inspired his ideas for flying machines that used magnetic repulsion, in the 1950s, Alister Hardy talked about that humans had evolved from "water-adapted apes" in the same way otters are "water-adapted mustelids", Dauvillier suggested in 1951 that Pluto was the core of a shattered ice giant, later corroborated in 1971 by a reflectance spectra of Pluto similar to that of iron-rich asteroids, in 1967 John Prince wrote about the dominance hierarchy and the evolution of mental illness, and in 1976 Samuel Warren Carey published The Expanding Earth. Decades later, it is in many ways as if those ideas got stuck in stasis, as if there was a counter-force that prevents their flourishing.

Memetic characteristics of a monopoly on violence

As Hoyle Leigh wrote, "memes that are loudest in ordering genes to replicate them have a survival advantage. Such memes would propagate by threatening annihilation of the genes on one hand and promising "eternal life" on the other - religions being prime examples", accentuated of course when there are external threats, such as, a monopoly on violence, threat-of-violence, how deterrents act on the brain to incentivize behaviours.

With a monopoly on violence, lower level systems in the brain, the paleo-mammalian brain and the brain stem, favour ideas similar to the Catholic idea of hell, eternal suffering, hitch-hiking on neurosis, existing as what could be called a phobeplex, a memeplex that is rooted in threatening annihilation of the genes, often co-existing with a binary opposite of eternal life or "being saved".

In the 20th century, what is the image of hell, that exploits similar "memetic pathways" to proliferate, without its "hosts" being aware of it? What is the lie within science, that forms a monopoly on violence which prevents 60 year old ideas from flourishing?

The OSS/CIA as the "womb" of the atomic bomb mythology

"Few who adventured into these areas of destruction and survived attempted any repetition of their experiences. There are stories of puffs of luminous, radio-active vapour drifting sometimes scores of miles from the bomb centre and killing and scorching all they overtook. " - H. G Wells, The World Set Free, 1913

In 1942, the USA instituted a new form of intelligence agency, that broke with the traditional notion of an intelligence agency as "military" or "naval," and broadened it to include the political, economic, social, scientific, topographical, and biographical  -  anything that constituted a strength or weakness in international affairs. The Office of Strategic Services (OSS), intended to be a war-time agency, had 5 years later evolved into the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that remained in operation even after the war ended.

"Harry Truman created the CIA, without congressional input or approval. Our government has not been the same since 1948 and the creation of the CIA, that's when we lost our constitution, it was in 1947 and 1948. " - Kevin Shipp, former CIA Agent

The assassination of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in April 1945 set the stage for Harry Truman and the OSS to carry out the psychological operations program of announcing that Hiroshima and Nagasaki, fire-bombed with napalm just like Tokyo and dozens of other Japanese cities, had been destroyed with a new arsenal that harnessed the power of the sun, the ultimate destructive force, which motivated the continued existence of the OSS under a new name, the CIA.

The dangers associated with giving power to a war-time intelligence agency even as the war ended were noted by both Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F Kennedy, who warned the people that it could spiral out of control.

The same CIA that is at this time in 2018 completely mad, spraying aerosols into the atmosphere, sulfur and aluminum, believing that it is a "cheap" way to "combat" global warming, the biggest environmental destruction since DDT and Rachel Carson's Silent Spring.

The global spring, technology as a catalyst of cultural evolution

"You take on the intelligence community, they [the CIA] have six ways from Sunday of getting back to you, even for a practical, supposedly hard-nosed businessman [president of the United States of America] he is being very dumb to do this. From what I am told, they are very upset with how he has treated them and talked about them, and we need the intelligence community, look at the Russian hacking, without the intelligence community we wouldn't have discovered it. " - Chuck Schumer

It's interesting how these strategies are almost identical to some marketing ones: appeal to the basic instincts and drive certain behaviors without the knowledge of the individual being influenced. It's almost like marketing ideas... But for the masses, and for darker purposes than to buy a TV.

I would guess it is non-conscious, that the spread of religious myths, including statism, is a result of memes finding niches in genetic bias, such as survival instincts, and that the idea of conspiracies is a mythologization in itself, ascribing intent and agency to actors that are, just, laws of nature. Individual events do have conscious actors, but the myths outlive their brief life span, and as memes are inherited without filtration and also imitated back and forth, and mutate, the result is far more complex than any single individual actor. The tendency to ascribe intent is also a cognitive fallacy, theory of mind.

Wrote about that here,

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. Do you have a post listing the resources I could go to learn all this prohibited knowledge? I know you have cited sources, but do you happen to have them in one single place?

It's just statism, you can study it like you study anything else in nature, an E. coli culture in a petri dish or a coral reef

Great characteristics analysis you have shared of that thing interesting to know that in details
