Awesome Army lost its Captain
Posted on May 28, 2017
This is an update from my article last year called Awesome Sauce and Healing.

I wrote about a strong woman who was battling cancer and her wonderful attitude towards it. I am very sad to write that the even after many battles that she won, she did not win the war. She was only 34, surviving her two daughters and loving husband.I wanted to write on the impact that she had on me and those around her.

Several years ago on Oprah, Gary Zurkav author of The Seat of the Soul, helped a grieving mother with loss of her son (only on this earth 4 days). He helped her understand that we are here to learn and make impacts and he made a large impact even during his short life. Melisse’s impact will be great and her soul has touched us is so many ways.

Melisse was more than a mother, a gal pal, a work colleague. She was the person with the big smile on her face every time I walked in the office. She was the person who made sure others were happy or at least content. Melisse gave so much to so many it is almost like a life line has been severed from most of us who knew her.

She was the Captain of the Awesome Army. I remember reading a few of her blogs describing visits to the doctor telling him what she was doing and he was shocked. This pesky disease did not keep her down no matter how much it tried. That is strength. A strength all that knew her wished we had just a sliver of.

Unfortunately , I was already out of town when she did the fun day at Wild Play and other adventures she organized with friends and family. She made sure she participated in the Relay for Life and with her strength encouraged others to join her.
Melisse’s force will truly be missed. Though I know one thing, she will never be gone. She will be a part of everyone who she touched, her beauty in her daughters shine, and her spirit lives all around us. She is the Awesome that we feel everyday and as long as we remember this we will have her love guiding us when we are faced with the obstacles life gives us.

She was here to teach us that life is short and that we should never take it for granted. Her soul left us with this very powerful lesson. Let the Awesome Army live on!!

Let’s make her life and death the impact it is meant to be. Be awesome and don’t let life bring down. It always can be worse.
