The Week That Was in Baseball

Bad Bundy: The form Baltimore Orioles first round pick, Dylan Bundy, was historically bad on Tuesday night. Bundy became the first pitcher in modern history to give up four home runs without recording an out. He did this against the worst run scoring team in the league, the Kansas City Royals. Bundy was removed from the game after he allowed the first seven batters he faced to score. The Royals won 15-7 and sent the Orioles to the worst record in the league at 8-27.

Paxton’s no-no: The Big Maple Leaf, James Paxton, got a standing ovation from the visiting fans at the Rogers Center, as he completed his no hitter. The Seattle Mariners won 5-0. Paxton became the first Canadian to throw a no hitter in his own country and the second Canadian overall after Dick Fowler in 1945 to throw one. The no hitter marks the seventh to be tossed outside the US.

Mets get the last laugh: After all the drama in Queens over the past week, the Mets got the last laugh as they sent the terminally turbulent Matt Harvey to one of the worst teams in baseball. The Mets shipped the disgruntled pitcher to the Cincinnati Reds for Devin Mesoraco and cash. All Mesoraco and Harvey had to do was walk into the other dugout after the trade as the Mets were visiting the Reds during the trade.

Indie Palmeiro: Earlier in the winter, 53-year-old former major leaguer Rafeal Palmeiro indicated that he wanted to make a comeback. Now, the disgraced ballplayer have joined the American Association independent club Cleburne Railroaders to play ball with his 28-year-old son Patrick. This is the first major sighting of Palmeiro since 2005 when he ended his career in Baltimore after testing positive for steroids. Palmeiro is one of six players with more than 3000 hits and 500 home runs.
