Weekend's Best Pitching Matchups

Friday: Yankees RHP Masahiro Tanaka vs. Mets RHP Jacob deGrom

This is a very interesting matchup between the New York boro teams. The Mets have let the Yankees know that they might be interesting in trading one of their aces for some of the numerous Yankee prospects. Tanaka is 7-2 but is ERA is a bloated 4.79 and the wins are mainly because on the Yankees offense. Tanaka might be pitching for a spot in the rotation and against deGrom, the starter who might usurp his spot.

Saturday: Mariners RHP Felix Hernandez vs. Rays LHP Blake Snell

King Felix is 9-2 with a 1.90 ERA in 17 career starts against Tampa including a perfect game but those stats might not mean anything coming into this one. Hernandez is currently 6-4 with a 5.33 ERA and in the midst of his worst major league season. King Felix will long to hone in his pitches in this match up.

Blake Snell has definitively taken over the reign of staff ace on this ball club. Manager Kevin Cash has no reason to let a relief pitcher pitch the first on Snell's day. Snell is currently 7-3 with a 2.36 ERA and is nearly unhittable at home with a 3-1 record and a .86 ERA.

Sunday: White Sox RHP Reynaldo Lopez vs. Red Sox RHP Rick Porcello

Reynaldo Lopez is doing his best to help the ChiSox rebuild along. The youngster is 1-4 on the season but his 3.42 ERA is keeping his team in the games he pitches. After struggling in May, Lopez went seven strong allowing just a hit against the Twins. The Red Sox lineup will be a significantly tougher task.

Rick Porcello is building another Cy Young type resume. Porcello is 8-2 with a 3.59 ERA with the benefit of a lot of run support like his Cy Young winning season.
