Price’s Game: Red Sox starter David Price pitched 5 1/3 innings in his first game back since being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. His Wednesday start to battle the Yankees for first place was skipped when he was experiencing numbness in a bullpen session. The video game enthusiast blames Fortnite, the popular videogame, and said he’d stop playing in the clubhouse to avoid distractions and embarrassment.

The Best Matchup: The hottest team in baseball, the Yankees, took 2 out of 3 from the Red Sox to grab a share of first place. There were no bench clearing brawls like in the first series but the matchups were fierce. Stanton hit two solo shots in the first game while Judge had two during the series. The Yankess erased a four run 8thinning deficit in the third game only to lose 5-4. The series is tied at 3 games apiece now.

A Zobrist Tribute: MLB warned Cubs player Ben Zobrist this week that the League would fine him if he didn’t stop wearing unregulated black cleats. Zobrist, who’d been wearing these cleats exclusively during Cubs day games for the last three years, was not a fan of the reprimand. Zobrist fired back at the league saying that he’s worn the black cleats in honor of Cubs great Ernie Banks and that the gesture has earn him and the cleats nothing but compliments. Don’t pursue the issue any further.

Kershaw’s Future: Clayton Kershaw is in his opt out year with the Dodgers. The 30 year old has two more years left on his current contract worth 35 million per year but injuries are starting to mount. Last week, Kershaw was placed on the DL with shoulder tightness and in the previous couple years he’s been a regular on the DL with back problems. Yet, the greatest pitcher in today’s game has finished in the top three in Cy Young voting six of the past seven years. Will Kershaw want to opt out given his health concerns and the detractors of what happened this offseason to Yu Darvish and Jake Arrieta? Kershaw might be the biggest wildcard this offseason.
