A recent study by the WHO (World Health Organization), specifically in the year 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Of these over 650 million were obese and most of the world's population live in countries where overweight and obesity kills more people than those who are underweight. More and more people are suffering from diseases caused by an unhealthy lifestyle, that’s why many people in the world are aiming to reduce the risks caused by this ongoing problem.

Many are engaging in fitness activities such as marathons, Cross Fit, weightlifting, and many more. And because of the development of technology, our fitness game just took a step further. Tracking our progress just became a whole lot easier, because of fitness apps, trackers and various software systems. But the thing is, each day we generate billions of data points about our health and fitness – when we do sports, when we visit the doctor, or when we track our nutrition intake. But they’re almost useless, because the data is isolated, locked and not accessible. The data is stored within data islands owned by companies that don’t interact. How can we use it to our own physical and financial advantage? How can we allow other people to create value with it while remaining fully in control?

Now, imagine an incorruptible safeguard for your data that easily connects you with all the institutions, companies and people that can help leverage it. BEAT is exactly this: a state-of-the-art blockchain platform that protects your data and allows you to share it with sports sponsors, talent scouts, doctors, insurance companies and many more to unlock the vast potential hidden in an truly comprehensive access to your health and activity data.

So how does it works? The BEAT Blockchain will allow the user to store his/her verified sports health and activity data anonymously and encrypted in the Blockchain. Only the user will have truly comprehensive access to his data. The user can then autonomously decide if he wants to become a Data Provider by sharing specific data that is based on a contractual agreement with future Data Consumers. The Data Consumer only gets access to the data as agreed in the contract and for the sole purpose defined in the contract. The Data Consumers will appreciate such ease of access to verified and unchangeable data.

This concept will require TTPs or “trusted third parties”. These TTPs could be management software for various health and sports providers, apps, smartwatches, fitness trackers, digitally enabled equipment, gyms, clinics, physicians, trainers, and etc., tracking, verifying and storing the health and activity data of the user within the BEAT Blockchain. This verifying and storing will need extensions and modifications to those systems that are already existing, enabling the owner of the data, for example the user, to store his/her data safely within the BEAT Blockchain under his/her control.

What’s great is that the BEAT Blockchain can allow a lot of positive things to happen like it could open doors for Sports and Talent Sponsoring and there are billions in sponsorship money waiting to be spent on target the users being the target. And it could be any sponsor, be it your friend, family, boss, or etc. they could reward their selected sportsperson for verified sports activities easily. The sponsor can also make sports challenges and delegate the objective verification to the BEAT Blockchain. This can start with a simple bet between the trainer and the sportsperson moving to a worldwide challenge for training most with new sports equipment. The rewards arranged in the sponsoring contract can be a contractual obligation that is settled outside the BEAT Ecosystem or be the transfer of BEAT Tokens, settled directly by the BEAT Ecosystem, making the BEAT Tokens the reward exchange token of sports.

It could also allow Targeted Advertising; this allows advertisers to promote products directly to users according to the users specified interests. Insurance Companies can also be able to reward a healthy lifestyle. It could also help to improve clinical research quality; allowing people to offer health records for research, without losing control over them. And it could provide physicians and physiotherapists with a truly comprehensive view of health and activity data.

BEAT, it is the prefix they have chosen for the blockchain and the token to be used for consuming services on the blockchain. Now what does BEAT stand for? It actually stands for a heartbeat, according to research, every living being on earth has approximately the same number of heartbeats. Therefore, smaller animals with a much higher number of heartbeats have a shorter lifespan than larger animals. Us human beings managed to almost double the amount of heartbeats because of medical and nutritional improvements.

The creators of BEAT aim at increasing it much further by improving the possibilities for health and sports use cases with the BEAT Universe. It’s not only for the increase of a lifespan they are aiming at, it is also for the additional well-being and enjoyment in sports and a healthy lifestyle can mean for each human being.

The tokens used in the blockchain are called BEAT Tokens. The BEAT Token is the equivalent of a ticket which allows the owner access to a certain amount of services on the BEAT Blockchain. Every time a Data Consumer accesses health and activity data on the BEAT Blockchain he/she will pay to the BEAT Foundation and the TTP a to be defined amount of BEAT Tokens. The costs for access to anonymous data in the BEAT Blockchain will be lower than those for personalized data.
