My Beautiful Sunday - Celebration of Maslenitsa in Sumy (En/Ru)

Today we celebrated Maslenitsa, a Slavic holiday that marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. On this day, it is customary to make pancakes, visit relatives and arrange folk festivals.

Сегодня мы праздновали Масленицу, славянский праздник, знаменующий конец зимы и начало весны. В этот день принято делать блины, ходить в гости к родственникам и устраивать народные гуляния

I can not say that today was a truly spring day, because the snow still lies around, and the wind along with the temperature below zero makes you dress warmer.

Я не могу сказать, что сегодня был по-настоящему весенний день, поскольку снег все еще лежит вокруг, а ветер вместе с минусовой температурой заставляют вас одеться потеплее.

But, despite the cold, we spent a little time outside and visited such festivities in the central park of our city.

Но, несмотря на холод, мы ненадолго выбрались на улицу и посетили такие гуляния в центральном парке нашего города.

There were songs and dances, funny contests, lots of food, including traditional pancakes and hot kebab, as well as various entertainment for adults and kids.

Там были песни и танцы, забавные конкурсы, много еды, включая традиционные блины и горячий шашлык, а также разные развлечения для взрослых и детишек.

And at the end of these сelebrations, as expected, they burned an effigy of Maslenitsa (i.e. winter).

А в конце этих празднований, как и ожидалось, сожгли чучело Масленицы (т.е. зимы).

Goodbye winter, now we are waiting for spring.

Прощай зима, теперь мы ждем весну
