ADSactly Beauty: 5 Easy And Natural Cleansers for Healthy Skin

in #beauty5 years ago

Hello dear @adsactly readers,

As promised, I'm back with a special edition about all-natural face cleansers. It's funny but it seems we're going a bit backwards with this series. We started with masks, which should technically come last in your beauty routine. Then, moved on to scrubbing and exfoliating and now finally, we've arrived at our first step - the cleanser. This is actually my favorite step of the routine, because it can be done daily (both masks and exfoliation can prove too harsh for some skin types, when applied daily). In fact, it’s crucial that you do cleanse your skin daily, both first thing in the morning and at night, after you take off your make-up. The feeling of having thoroughly clean skin is just amazing and making sure you wash your face properly and regularly can really help with skin problems such as breakouts.

And while there are a lot of great facial cleansers out there already, chances are, if you’re reading this post, you’re looking to go a bit more natural. Good for you. The truth is there are a lot of great cleansers out there that you probably have in your home already that might prove cheaper and more effective than those that cost a fortune. Notice, I said might, for each person is different and what works for you might not work for me and so on and so forth.

1. Coconut Oil

source

I know, I know, we talked about this one just a few posts ago, which is why I figured I’d get it out of the way quickly. Coconut oil is supposedly a great cleanser, mainly because of its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It strips the skin gently of make-up and grime, but it doesn’t take away any of those natural and healthy oils that your skin produces (sadly, a lot of the harsher cleansers out there do have this downside).

However, coconut oil is probably not what you’re going for if you have an oily skin type, as it might just aggravate your existing problems. So, if you have problematic skin, I would recommend staying away from coconut oil, or at least not making it a daily use. As it’s a really effective moisturizer, it might work wonders if your skin is dry, so check it out.

2. Cucumber Milk

source

This one is a bit trickier, as you will probably have to keep making fresh cleansers (as it doesn’t really store all that well). But it might be worth it, considering that cucumbers are packed with Vitamin A, C and D, as well as potassium and magnesium. It is said that cucumbers can also help fight acne and even brighten your skin, fade scars and dark circles… As it happens, cucumbers are an age-old beauty trick in my country.

Women would peel a cucumber for lunch and put the remains on their face as a quick mask.

So, this also works great with just the cucumber and I would recommend that, especially if you don’t have access to fresh milk. But if you want, you’re welcome to give cucumber milk a try. You just peel and chop the cucumber, blend it. Pour some milk, blend again, and then wash your face.

Other great cucumber face cleansers include green tea (makes your skin glow&reduces puffiness), honey (good moisturizer and packed with nutrients) and aloe vera (full of vitamins and minerals).

3. Rosewater

source

This one actually doubles as both a cleanser and a toner, so that’s pretty great. Not to mention that the smell and look should be divine. Right, so you can just use rosewater (bought or home-made) to cleanse your face, but you could also add lemon juice. Add equal parts rosewater and lemon juice and mix well. The rosewater has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, so it effectively treats any skin issues you might have. It’s also anti-inflammatory and helps battle redness.
Lemon juice, on the other hand, is a great lightener – it can both diminish age spots as well as fade scars. It also helps reduce those unsightly blackheads.
So, maybe give lemon rosewater a try?

How to make your own rosewater? Easy, you just take some rose petals, pour boiling water over them and allow it to cool. And of course, run it through a sieve afterwards.

I would warn you, about this as well as the other recipes, always do a patch test to make sure you don’t have any unpleasant reactions to the mix. And keep a close eye on how your skin looks after you begin using the cleanser.

4. Tea Tree

source

Tea tree essential oil is like a magic anti-acne ingredient – all the hip, store-bought products seem to have it. Well, not all. But a lot of them – there are tea tree cleansers, toners, masks etc. So why not go to the root of it and just get some tea tree oil yourself?

A lot of people recommend just dripping some tea tree EO on a cotton swab and applying on the affected area as treatment. Tea tree oil is very harsh, though, so be careful. It will dry the skin, so don’t smear it all over, or you'll get a super-dry face.
Also, it has a very strong smell, so best apply this when you know you're not going anywhere.

What you can do is make a not-too-harsh facial cleansers. All you need is some castile soap, some distilled water and 10-15 drops of tea tree essential oil. This recipe works well, though make sure not to go over board with the castile soap (only 1/4th of the distilled water).
It also works well when mixed with rosewater, as well as castor oil, though that may prove to be too thick for your face, so be careful.

5. Witch Hazel

source

While witch hazel is great for acne and oily skin, this last cleanser works really well with all skin types, which is why I am ending with it. You can probably find witch hazel at most stores (natural food stores, definitely). You’ll need a bottle of that (about 120 ml), elderflower tea and some glycerine.

Brew the tea extra strong (maybe even use 2 bags) and let it cool. Once cooled, pour part of it into a glass jar, then add the witch hazel and the glycerine. Remember to give it a good shake before each use as the ingredients have a tendency to separate, if left for too long.

I couldn’t end this post and not mention my favorite natural cleanser, chamomile tea. This one doesn’t get its own section, as I covered it in our 6 teas for your beauty post, but I figured I’d give it a shoutout as it’s great for soothing tired eyes and keeping the skin clean.

To clean my face I normally use handmade clay or aloe vera soap. I love them. I have a friend who makes them from various natural ingredients, from mud to tomato, coconut, roses. To remove the makeup floor wet a cotton wool with coconut or argan oils. In fact, sometimes I use one first, remove it and then use the other. It's a practice that leaves my skin smoother and cleaner. Likewise, I have read that the best thing to do is to clean your face at night and try to do it not so often in the morning. If you slept with a clean face, morning oils are essential to keep your face fresh. Always happy to read to you, @honeydue.

Following your pleasant and informative post, @honeydue. Of the elements you propose for skin cleansing, the ones I have used, because they are more accessible, are coconut oil and cucumber juice; the latter is particularly refreshing for my skin. Thank you and greetings.

A refreshing post. My favorite skin cleaner is the fresh cucumber. Very easy to acquire and use. Just cut into slices and place it on your face; it is a wonder. I thought it was strange that you did not mention chamomile tea but in the end you did it, that is also my favorite. Chamomile leaves are easily obtained in the sale of natural products. Recipe: boil water, place the chamomile and let it rest. Sieve the infusion, discard the flowers, and then, with warm chamomile water, go through the face with a cotton ball. Chamomile tea can dry the skin for some people but as written in the article "each skin has its proper natural cleanser". Everyone must find their natural cleanser. Very nice publication @honeydue

Hello, @honeydue. My favorite cleanser is rose water and my daily tonic. As my skin type is oily the rose water is fantastic to keep it fresh and lush. Sometimes I use cucumber and I love it too and when I make chamomile tea, I use the bags to clean and reduce inflammation. Once again a very useful publication and with many tips to put into practice, thank you @honeydue. Until the next beauty session :)

I make coconut oil myself. I love the fact that the oil absorbs on the skin easily. The fact that it can be used a facial cleanser is absolutely exciting.

I am a coconut oil fanatic any day, any time 😁
