Beercation

It’s been a while since our last vacation. So we packed up the car and headed south to Tennessee. Our destination was the The Smokey mountains.

‘The Great Smoky Mountains are a mountain range rising along the Tennessee–North Carolina border in the southeastern United States. They are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains, and form part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province. The range is sometimes called the Smoky Mountains and the name is commonly shortened to the Smokies. The Great Smokies are best known as the home of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which protects most of the range. The park was established in 1934, and, with over 11 million visits per year, it is the most visited national park in the United States’ source

These mountains are known for their lush greenery and flowing rivers. So what could make hiking these beautiful mountains better? Beer of course! I’ve made it a habit to pack a beer on most of my hikes. There is nothing better than working you ass off to find the perfect spot to enjoy a pint.

This first location is Abram Falls in Cades Cove. Abrams Falls Trail is a 4.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Townsend, Tennessee that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. It’s a fairly easy trail, but pack the right shoes and some water. Too many people are unprepared and think that it will be a walk in the park. For this hike I decided to pack a cold stout by Ellison Brewery.

The second hike was off the beat and path. Chestnut Mountain Bluff is not in the national park and it’s not for the faint of heart. You walk up a river and then straight up a mountain. At some points you are scaling rock faces. This is an extremely difficult hike and there is no marked trail so be warned. We hiked this trail early in the day so I thought it was appropriate to bring a Morning Wood Stout by Odd Side Ales.

The third hike pictured was the most difficult. This was the Alum Cave to Mt. LeConte trail. To reach the 6593-foot summit of Mount LeConte you have to climb 2763 feet, and hike 5.5 miles from the Alum Cave Trailhead. The first section of the Alum Cave Trail, up to Arch Rock, travels over a fairly gentle grade, but the difficulty and danger increase until you reach the summit. We added a few extra miles to have lunch and enjoy a pint at Myrtle Point. For this hike I had another stout by Ellison Brewery.

You've found some pretty nice spots to have your beers! Recently a friend of mine found out that I will be hiking a mountain as well and his recommendation also was to take pint with me to have up there at the summit. Maybe I will send you cheers from there hehe!

Some really nice beer content in your feed. Keep them flowing! ^^

I've often found that beer tastes substantially better at the top of a hike, at the end of a long ride, or after some intense climbing.

The juice is worth the squeeze!

I could of not said it better myself.

Sounds like a great trip! Nice pics and beers too! I have not spent much time in that part of the US, always driving through but not staying long.

We had a great time I highly recommend checking it out. Knoxville is also worth checking out. The craft beer scene there is really good.
