Polish multitaps: Piwna Stopa (Poznań)

I was visiting Poznań recently. This city is famous for some great multitap bars. A friend of mine took me to the place which was in a top 5 Polish multitaps according to RateBeer. It is called Piwna Stopa, which can be translated as Beer Foot. I heard all the best things about this place, so I was truly excited to go there.

The inside is decorated in a style that I very like and it is based on the “old stuff”. Space is long and not especially wide, but I have to admit that I could feel the spatiality there.

The assortment is a paradise for the gourmets. Over 200 bottles and 16 taps with a great review of both Polish and foreign beers. The current set of the taps is placed on the red board.

It is also possible to get something to eat there. Toast and hot dogs are always available, but that evening was also offering some kind of goulash, unfortunately, flavored by Carolina Reaper which is too strong for me to try it.

I started my degustation from tasting a Canadian Imperial Stout Péché Mortel from Dieu du Ciel Brewery ($8.88 / 7.20 Euro per 0.33L) and a hot dog with the boar sausage ($5 / 4 Euro). The beer was totally worth its price - I have no doubt that this was one of the best Imperial Stouts I had ever chance to try. The aroma is dominated by strong coffee, roasted malts, raisins, plums, milk chocolate, and vanilla. The taste is basically the same, the bitterness is strong, but it comes mostly from the coffee. Anyway, this is a sensational beer, don’t hesitate and try it if you only will have a chance.

After a short waiting, I also get my hot dog. It was very tasty, but there is no way to eat it without getting messy ;)

I knew that after this great Stout it will be difficult to buy something that will satisfy me, but I decided to try Imperial IPA from Golem Brewery called Owech Hazy DIPA ($4.44 / 3.6 Euro per 0.5L). I was right - this was the beer without any history, too sweet and too little bitter as for double IPA.

Disappointed with the last choice I decided to give a shot with Juicy Melody from Rockmill Brewery ($4.44 / 3.6 Euro per 0.5L), in hope to regain faith in Polish Imperial IPA. Unfortunately, it was only a little bit better. There were some pleasant hard candies and melon present in the aroma, but it was far away worse when coming to the taste - the hard candies were there, but the saturation was too high and it kills all other tastes. Sadly, the bitterness was also very low.

So, to sum up, this short visit in Piwna Stopa, I have to say that this is a “must visit” place for every beer lover who will find his way to Poznań. The assortment is huge, the staff is polite and professional, the food is also fine. There is also one very interesting fact about this place. You can still buy there some beers which are no longer distributed and were very popular. Let me just mention that I saw Samiec Alfa from Artezan Brewery there - one of the best Polish Imperial Stouts ever made, and from foreign beers, you can buy Goossens 1959 Lambic - the price is $210 or 168 Euro per bottle.
