The Little Edinburgh Project

It is called Little Edinburgh and it is a series of shots I have taken around the city of Edinburgh in Scotland over the years. It is called Little Edinburgh because the focus of the project is to take photos in a way as to show the city in miniature using the tilt-shift effect. Edinburgh is an international cosmopolitan city but still somehow has a small town feel to it. I cannot walk down the street without recognising someone I know. So with that in mind it felt appropriate to create a vision of Edinburgh that makes it look very small, almost like a toy town.

The Royal Scottish Academy Building

This image features the second gallery on the mound (following on from yesterday) which houses the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture and is on the corner of the mound and Princes Street, which is the main street in Edinburgh. Princes Street is riddled with shops and a few restaurants and is the retail epicentre of the city. The Royal Scottish Academy is an independently funded organisation which supports the creation, understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts in Scotland. The Academy was founded in 1826 and initially leased space in this building to host its exhibitions, and by 1838 gained its Royal Charter allowing it to add 'Royal' to its name. so what is a Royal Charter? Well that is when a document is signed by the king or queen of a country, and gives an organization particular rights. Today, Royal Charters are normally reserved for organizations that work in the public interest, but historically it is one of the oldest forms of incorporation.

This particular building is now called the The Royal Scottish Academy Building and is the permanent home of the ROyal Scottish Academy of Arts and Architecture.
