The delightful experience of waiting in lines

Or more commonly known as the devils own preview to what comes if you end up in hell. You stand there and you wait, waste time to do something that should take seconds. Time moves as if you’re trying to muddle through gelatin and it slowly grates on your brain. It always seems like the line is not moving at all, and when you check to see what the person behind the counter is doing it’s a well known scene – they make entirely unnecessary movements with their mouse, are nervous and probably incompetent at their work.

You can feel your blood pressure slowly raising and you start imitating what other people around you are doing – tapping toes, sighing, talking under your breath, and all the other nervous tics. When you think you won’t be able to take it anymore there's inevitability an old lady that wants to talk for a bit, commenting about this and that, and for a second it alleviates your mood because you forget about the wait. If you’re lucky enough there’s a guy who loudly complains and demonstrates what you all currently feel. That way you don’t have to expose yourself.

Slowly, slowly you inch closer to the counter, you can feel the relief flooding in, the rewarding feeling of ‘I finally made it', and then it happens…

Those motherfuckers close all their counters and go take a lunch. What happens next would be best described as a minor civil unrest, but the assholes aren’t moved by these things at all. If only they had the decency to put someone else to work.

And the wait continues. If you pulled through and make it to the window, congratulations, you can continue with your life normally, albeit a bit more traumatized. But if you gave up and went home, boy do I have some news for you; at some point you’ll have to do it all again and sooner than you’d like.

Needless to say I hate waiting in lines, not only it shows you all the human trash around you, but it also pulls you at their level so you become one as well. One of the least gratifying experiences around, I’d give it 3/10.
