The Book of Revelation – Chapter 2:18-26

in #bible6 years ago

To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:

These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching, she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.’

To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations—that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’ just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Revelation 2:18-26

Let me remind you that nothing in the "Revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his slaves what must soon take place" has had a start of fulfillment, not even close.

So not be fooled by the many explanations of "The Book of Revelation" where almost all of them (if not all) attempt to apply and squeeze the events of today into this book. Jesus was not referring to this time period of man-made rule over the earth (under Satan's influence and direction) or any other time period BEFORE the establishment of his one-thousand-year reign (kingdom) over the earth which is yet to come. (Revelation 1:1)

When Jesus made the statement at Revelation 1:1 "... to show his servants what must soon take place" he was referring to a future time period after his definite one-thousand-year kingdom over the earth will have run its course and ended. Thereafter, Satan - who will have been Abyssed for the exact same duration as Christs one-thousand-year kingdom over the earth - will then be released.

Christ is providing a warning to his slaves in those future days (which will be all of resurrected mankind) as to what will SOON TAKE PLACE after his one-thousand kingdom over the earth will have come to an end and Satan is released upon that future restored world Christ leaves behind. (Revelation 20:7-8)

Also, keep in mind that we are given a glimpse of the future of how Christ will organize his kingdom on earth. It will be organized into seven congregations or nations of people. That we are told at Revelation 7:9 and Revelation 20:8 that the numbers of people on the earth will be so vast, that they cannot be counted. Their numbers are like the sand on the seashore. Can one count the grains of sand on even one sandy beach? No, it is not possible. Do we know the population of the earth today? Yes! It is knowable. It is countable! It is approximately 7 billion. So we know that the events of The Book of Revelation cannot possibly apply to our time period at present.

So where do all of these people come from? They are resurrected back to life from the dead as Jesus promised. They make up all of the people who were born since the time of Adam, to include Adam himself!

There is something else here that many have yet to realize. The earth is much larger than we have been told. Its extremities are far-reaching. The earth IS NOT a globe. Extremities are not associated with roundness or globes. In the Bible, in more than 640 places, the earth is said to have extremities or quarters.

Satan, who is the of this world, has used the organizations that he has raised up out of his world to promote the lie that the earth is a globe. At this point in time, it is pointless to debate it because Satan already has in his power and control the majority of the world's population; yes, even those claiming to follow him. Plus, the arrogance and disagreeable nature cultivated in people makes it pointless to debate it. The truth will be revealed in God's appointed time.

Now, Christ's angel directs the Apostle John to write to the angel of the congregation in Thyatira.

The Words of the Son of God

These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. Revelation 2:18

Notice that it is a person, not a book, that is identified as "The Word of God." One is in gross error to assume that the "Bible" is The Word of God.

It is reaffirmed that the words of the "Revelation" are his. His Father in heaven gave them to him. (Revelation 1:1)

That his (Christ Jesus) eyes are seen like a blazing fire show where he now stands: In among the seven golden lampstands which are the seven congregations, Thyatira being one of the seven congregations. (Revelation 1:13 and Revelation 1:20)

The reflection of the burning lampstands is reflected in Jesus' eyes. This means that his attention is on his household, the seven congregations. His eyes are piercing and they (he) searches that which is internal, not external hearts and minds. His attention can be removed from any one of those congregations and their lampstand or light of it removed. In other words, if they do not obey him and prove themselves faithful, they will be removed from his protective presence. No longer reflected in his eyes. Their light extinguished.

That his feet are like burnished bronze (in some translations copper), shows where he stands. He stands in a holy place. The Most Holies. That is, in the presence of God! His bare feet shows that he has been tested by his Father in heaven as if by fire and he is approved of God to stand in His presence.

That Christ is in the presence of his Father shows that he is the only one who is (and will be) entrusted with this message (The Revelation) and the Good News of the Kingdom message that is yet to come. No angel or human entity (some so-called "God's Earthly Organization - who is NOT in God's presence in heaven) can possibly receive any message from The Most Holy God to dispense to the world. We are tainted and imperfect and cannot possibly receive and be entrusted with any perfect message from God.

No human on earth or human organization on earth is holy, has been tried and tested, or is worthy to receive any scroll (message) from the Most High God. Only Christ is worthy.

I Know Your Deeds

I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. - Revelation 2:19

Through Christ's angel to John to the angel of the church of Thyatira, Christ assures them that he whose "eyes like a blazing fire" is aware their "deeds, love, faith, service, and perseverance. And, that they have stepped up their game in that regard so-to-speak.

I Have This Against You

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching, she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. - Revelation 2:20-23

However, they have fallen short in that they have tolerated "that woman Jezebel." No, this is not the literal Jezebel as she died many thousands of years ago. Neither is this a literal woman named Jezebel who will appear in the future.

No, this is some element within Satan's kingdom on earth in the future in which members within Christ's household of the Thyatiran congregation will allow in among them. And, since the Jezebel of old was a prostitute, The Thyatiran congregation will commit fornication with her - not in a literal sense - but in a figurative sense.

To give an example of how this fornication works between the things of God and Christ and that which is not can be seen today where we have individuals claiming that they are worshipers of God and followers of Christ but they compromise and prostitue themselves to Caesar, that is "The Political State." They will give to Caesar that which does not belong to Caesar: Allegiance and worship. Those things belong exclusively to God.

So, in those future days, the Thyatiran congregation will - perhaps out of fear - tolerate and prostitute themselves with an element of Satan's world.

That Jezebel element - which is a False Prophet - will bring in teachings contrary to what Christ had taught his servants that will cause those within that congregation to incorporate them with Christ's teachings. They will compromise thus not remaining faithful to the true teaching.

This Jezebel will be former kings of the earth with Christ. They will give their kingdom inheritance to the Dragon. Christ knows them as being his. He selected them as kings during his one-thousand-year reign over the earth. Therefore, he will give them time to repent. They know what they have done. Yet, Christ shows here that they are "unwilling to repent."

So this Jezebel (former kings with Jesus) will suffer as if stricken with a heinous venereal disease. And, those who listen to or commit adultery with her will also suffer unless they repent. Unlike the this proverbial Jezebel who is not willing to repent, those under her can repent and detach themselves from a group of men they once trusted but who have turn unfaithful.

Note: Adultery (not fornication) implies that these former kings will have those under his protection and responsibility. There is a trusted marriage between the kings and the subjects to which they were entrusted.

Any offspring this Jezebel produces will die. The offspring are not literal flesh and blood children. These would be Jezebel-like organizations that will pop up all over the inhabited earth in those days for the purpose of misleading the servants of Christ and subtly bring them under subjugation to Satan's beastly kingdom without the use of violence or threat of punishment or death if they do not. Jezebel and her children will beguile servants of Christ by her charms and smooth and seductive words.

What Christ uses the Thyatiran congregation to show how his "eyes like a blazing fire" will examine the other congregations as well. He searches hearts and minds and will repay each of them according to the things they do.

To The Rest of You In Thyatira

Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’ - Revelation 2:24-25

This shows that everyone within the vast population of the Thyatiran congregation will recognize that the teachings of this proverbial Jezebel and her children are false and will not be beguiled by them and will remain faithful to Christs teachings, Christ commends them and will not impose no other burden upon them because they are faithful and doing what they have been directed to do my the Master of the House, Christ Jesus himself.

That these persons are being faithful makes them the good and faithful slaves. They are discreet. It also shows that there will be bad and unfaithful slaves within Christ's household (the seven congregations).

You will see later that these unfaithful slaves will outnumber the faithful slaves within Christ's household and will put pressure on them to accept the "deep things of Satan" and join them. That the faithful slaves will refuse to join them, the unfaithful slaves will begin to beat them - not in a literal sense - by betraying them and turning them over to the punitive authorities so that they can punish, threaten, imprison, and even put them to death. This is in the same fashion that Judas betrayed Christ and turned him over to the Roman authorities where he was punished and executed.

Thus, members of one's own household (members of Christ's household) will betray one another. (Matthew 24:10-12)

This is all yet future.

To The One Who Is Victorious

To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations. Revelation 2:26

Most claiming to follow Christ today do not realize that they are NOT saved. No one in the world is in a "saved" state. Why is that?

Because no one has been tried and tested faithful. The Great Tribulation (Test)- which is many years into the future - has not arrived yet. It will serve the purpose of testing one's faith as being worthy of entry into God's Kingdom when it comes down to the earth and therein one is granted eternal life.

At Revelation 2:26, Jesus is telling his servants that the one who is victorious to THE END, he will give authority over nations (of people). There will no "countries" in those future days, only nations of people assigned to one of the seven congregations.

The end is not yet. It has not arrived yet.

Did Jesus teach elsewhere about a time of EARTHWIDE BETRAYAL and WHEN salvation (being saved for eternal life) will occur? Yes! At Matthew 10:21-22. Listen to what he teaches and notice how it ties in directly to what he says here at Revelation 2:26:

Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. - Matthew 10:21-22

Notice that Jesus says that his faithful servants will be hated by EVERYONE!. That cannot possibly be in our time period today. Why? Because everyone does not hate Christs followers. In fact, the many claiming to be his followers hate each other and have even engaged in deadly war with each other and still do!

So, the time period in which Jesus is here referring has to be a time period in which ALL of the inhabited earth is united under one king or government. That kingdom or government that is yet to come is Satan's throne on the earth which has yet to come up out of the Abyss with him. (Revelation 2:9 and Revelation 13:1)

In that future earth, a betrayal will take place. The faithful slaves of Christ will be betrayed by the unfaithful ones who have prostituted themselves with the things of Satan's beastly kingdom.

Jesus is telling them that if they are victorious, TO THE END, he will give them authority over the nations (of people).

It is interesting what Jesus said in Matthew 5:5 in this regard:

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. - Matthew 5:5

Yes, those who "stand firm to the end" and who are "victorious and does my will to the end" will be saved for eternal life on earth and will inherit the earth with authority as kings over the nations of people ... forever as his appointed representatives on earth. (See Psalms 37:11 and Psalms 37:29)

I will now move into Revelation Chapter Three. There, I will discuss the writing to the fifth congregation that will be on the earth in those future days, Sardis.
