Steemit: Bid-bots are coming to a post near you

in #bidbot7 years ago (edited)

In this post, reasons to use bots, timing strategy, and suggested amounts to send. Not in this post, lots of waffle and political stance regarding Bid-bots.

wars.png

Are you a user? Just for recreational purposes eh? Or are you going cold-turkey? Or steering well clear of these pesky beasts? Love them or loath them, it seems the Bid-bots are here to stay, and new incarnations of a 'robot bidders' are appearing every couple of weeks at present.

There are generally two types of bid-bots. Ones that run on a 2.4 hour cycle and vote everyone who has sent money with a % of the total stake sent in the cycle. And those that will give you a vote almost instantly (or when next online/awake).

The variables on the size of the vote are your SBD contribution, the voting power of the bot, and in the case of the first type of bid-bot discussed above, the contributions of other users sending to the bot within the same voting window.

Why Bid-bot?

Although many are drawn to the Bid-bots for the extra payout potential, there are a couple of other reasons to consider using them. I would say the 3 main reasons/advantages for using vote boosting Bots are:

  • Cash: Time the memo correctly and send with the right stake and you will make a little

  • Promotion: Boost your post into 'Hot' for extra visibility

  • Reputation: The number in the circle next to your user id - warning, this may or may not equal 'actual' reputation as seen by Steemit.com members

For me, it's mainly about increasing percieved reputation, and moving that little number up next to @abh12345. Big votes from high rep whales are what move your reputation the most, and now there are so many more mouths to feed than last year, it's much harder to move up the rep ranks. What would you pay, to have a reputation of 70?

I would say the cash returned from Bit-bot investment makes them profitable, but not hugely. And post promotion is tough, even if you have timed the the Bots bang on and spent big. A bigger fish, or 5, will come along shortly and knock you post out the front page, even if your post is awesome.

Bid-bot tactics

There are various web-pages to check out the bids a bot has received and when the Bot is next due to vote on posts it's been sent. These are okkk, but I think another option is to check the 'comments' and 'wallet' of each bot - here you can find out if it's a good time to send them SBDs, and calculate how much you should be sending.

All out promotion

One approach could be to throw all the Bots SBDs as soon as your new blog appears. E.g. 5 to @minnowbooster, 10 to booster, 5 to photobomb, 5 to bellyrub, amn then the rest with lower amounts (as suggested later). If you've checked that @booster and @bellyrub have not 'commented' on a post for a few hours, they will be ready to vote in the next hour. It is possible to have all the above vote for your post in the first 20/30 minutes and send it to 'Hot' or 'Trending'. The negative here is that your blog may look 'cheap' or tacky with the comments section littered with Bots - I suspect this will put some potential voters off.

Additional votes later on

When your post is a few days old, it is likely to be recieving less hits and probably way down the list of your followers 'Home' page. Now could be the time to start adding the Bid-bot votes. The advantage here is that your comments section is not littered with auto-replies, and your votes will be able to gain more curation rewards due to the Bot votes following them.

Front-runners and 'Wallet' followers

Another potential bonus vote or is available on 2/3 of the bigger Bots. Some members of the community are using software to vote ahead of the bots, good for their curation rewards, and an addional vote for you. Check out https://steemit.com/@frontrunner for more details.
It's also possible to keep an eye on the Wallet of @booster and @bellyrub and 'frontrun' manually. Posts submitted to these bots with a 5-10-15 SBD sum might well be worth voting on, if the Bot hasn't got their first.

A few additional points

  • Sometimes a Bot can fail to vote, when this has happened I've always received a refund (Thanks @zeartul, @booster team, @randowhale, and @minnowbooster admins)
  • Sending bots to others posts can be a nice way to share the love if you don't have a lot of Steem Power
  • Using bots may discourage others from Voting for your post
  • If you are the owner of a Bot above, or one that isn't listed then let me know!
  • Opinions, questions, and corrections are very welcome!
  • Yes, I will be using all the bots above on this post :p

Thanks for reading today

Thank you, @abh12345 for the useful post.

Upvoting bots are becoming more and more popular because they give little minnows a chance in this ocean. However, they have known side effects.

In fact, we are having a discussion here about another idea that can help minnows without the side effects of bots. We are suggestion a project where the author pays to get his/her post reviewed. It will be upvoted only if its quality wa high. Please, join us in the discussion if you'd like.

Thanks @sadekj

I will take a look :)

Very good post there are some bots I didn't even know about so thank you for the information

A pleasure, thanks for dropping by and for your comments :)

I don't use them. I do occasionally use tipu when my voting power is crap. The rest...I don't care for. Though this post broke them down nicely for me and actually know more now...at the end they are just used to boost yourself. Since I never even upvoted my content I doubt I will ever use them (time will tell).

Very honorable of you not to use them. I use them on each post, and daily on others posts :)

If you feel you have taken the time and effort on your own content, I don't think it's a bad thing to up-vote it.

You are a very honorable Steemian @atopy!

I get it. I do. I don't point fingers at people who self-upvote or boost. I just can't do it. It feels a bit....icky. Like posting on FB and giving yourself a like. Blah. While on some level it does state - I like my own content ...on some other level it also says I'm desperate. Since I'm not either....I don't do it. :D

So basically my brain gets it and it makes total sense but I let "feelings" rule out on that one. So nothing honorable there. :)

Some of your posts/drawings/artwork must have taken you hours - I think they are worthy of a personal max vote. If I was producing rubbish with little effort, I wouldn't feel right self up-voting.

I'm sure you will reach the stars in time :D

I like doing this :)

yeah....but you are obviously rewarding others ...i have no issues with that. That's great....but think self-boosting is still in the gray zone and you have to admit there is quite a lot who only use this for themselves. Actually following @holoz0r and his reports he drops by time to time...randowhale for example...

91.35% of the Surveyed data was a self upvote!

It is a touchy subject. My votes are worth cents. Now imagine my upvote was actually worth something. Would you still mind if I upvoted my post for 100$? :D Wouldn't you rather see I gave that to someone else?

And ty for the boost! Just seen it. :)

My pleasure ! :D

u forgot me.

I do apologise! I'll update the post later today 👍🏾😁

i m the owner of khoa.

can you make the text that is added to the comments the bot gives?

Discrete is nicer than '@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@'

Also you should do a nice intro post for the bot - look at the other bots and see what they are doing.

Thanks!

Wow, that is some really nice overview of them. Great work. But the best part is the title. You killed it. ;)

abh12345.png

Thanks man 🏆

Nice image, is that for me!?

You been busy yesterday, looks like the power user vlogs are a hit! Sweet!

Yes, it is for you. You are now Steemy approved

I've been wanting to research all the bots but have been lazy about it. Now thanks to you I don't have to! thanks,

Glad to be of service dude! :D

You forgot one bot and its name is ☝️ tip! 0.3

Tip is certainly worth a mention! Thank you!

I guess i should also mention @originalworks too!

I mean there are so Many. You definitely did a good job summarizing them.

I am just using bots so that I can increase reputation so that my posts are taken more seriously. Although it helps to get your post on the hot section by using bots but I have observed that less whales will vote for you if you are using a bot, so the best way to use bots is to get them to vote late on your posts and not right away!

Yes the delay makes sense, and same regarding the rep boost. Thanks for commenting 😁

A great breakdown of the bots available buddy.
Nice work.

Thanks @tremendospercy, hopefully some will find the info useful!

Thanks for the break down on how all those work... some of them I haven't even heard of... some of them I use but I do hate the way they clutter up my posts...

Cheers Dave

@discordia is the quiet one, not much SP but worth a small sum I think.
