Education: The Writing On The Wall
The Indian state of Bihar – historically considered a learning center and place where Buddha became enlightened – was known in history for its education, culture and wealth. But in our times, things have changed for the worse and the land is now in the news for all the wrong reasons. For instance, its economy isn't doing very well probably partly because of its appalling education system.
In 2016, two toppers in their educational system Ruby Rai and Saurav Srestha failed to answer questions from a journalist in a viral video. READ MORE: Bihar topper scam: Police arrest Ruby Rai who scored highest in Arts after she failed re-test.
In 2018, Bihar School Examination Board (BSEM) is back in the news once again. Some students in the 12th standard have claimed on 8th June, 2018, that they received marks higher than the total, or were given marks for papers they never answered. For example, Sandeep Rai secured 38 out of 35 marks in the physics theory. Question is, when 35 is the highest possible score, how did the number 38 magically appear?
This isn't just a case of cheating done by students. Their Colleges and BSEM officials, at-least a section of them, have been lured by money into manipulating the system for a racket that it is today.
