Every time I walked by Lara or Margarita, I noticed some pretty flowers that adorned the streets, even had different colors. I knew them with the name of "Trinitarias" but after investigating a bit I found the following:

It was first described by the French botanist Philibert Commerçon who surrounded the world with the Admiral of the French Navy and explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville during a circumnavigation (1766-1769), in honor of which he gave his name to the genus. However, it was officially published 20 years later in the "Genera Plantarum" by Antoine Laurent de Jussieu.

They are vines that can reach up to 12 meters in height. They have thorns that they use to entangle themselves in walls and trees. They can be perennial or deciduous according to the climate of where they are, that is to say that they can remain with their green leaves all year round if there is abundant water as they can wither in lack of it. Its leaves have an alternate arrangement, they are simple and oval-acuminate, meaning that they end in a point. Its flowers are hermaphrodite, usually white with 5 or 6 short lobes usually white, the bracts can be white, yellow, orange, pink, fuchsia, purple or red, and also have between 5 to 10 stamens.

In Mexico they are used as a remedy for respiratory conditions such as asthma, cough, bronchitis and influenza. An infusion is made with the leaves and bracts and hot drink three times a day for 5 days.

Son enredaderas que pueden llegar hasta los 12 metros de altura. Poseen espinas que usan para enredarse en paredes y árboles. Pueden ser perennes o caducifolias según el clima de donde se encuentren, es decir que pueden permanecer con sus hojas verdes todo el año si hay abundante agua como pueden marchitarse en carecer de esta. Sus hojas tienen una disposición alterna, son simples y de forma ovalada-acuminada, es decir que terminan en punta. Sus flores son hermafroditas, por lo general blancas con 5 o 6 lóbulos cortos generalmente blancos, las brácteas pueden ser blancas, amarillas, naranjas, rosadas, fucsias, purpuras o rojas, y además poseen entre 5 a 10 estambres.

En México se usan como remedio para afecciones respiratorias como el asma, la tos, la bronquitis y la gripe. Se hace una infusión con las hojas y brácteas y se bebe caliente tres veces al día durante 5 días.
