Orting Rails-to-Trails Walk Today
Bewick's Wrens Thryomanes bewickii were calling in several places on the trail this morning.
I woke up early this morning, and decided to head out to Orting to walk on the Rails-to-Trails path starting at the Carbon River bridge. I needed a good exercise walk, and this is a nice trail for walking as well as being a top birding area in Pierce County. The birding was far better on the return part of the walk as it seemed like everything was still sleeping shortly after sunrise.
This pair of Mallards Anas platyrhynchos were the only ducks I saw today despite walking beside a river most of the hike.
There was just enough light to capture this Song Sparrow Melospiza melodia in a bush early on the walk this morning.
This Bald Eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus took flight just as I got the camera into position, but I did get this "just after takeoff" photo.
The rest of the day has turned out sunny and beautiful. Maybe I'll get out again after the U. W. football game this afternoon.
