Today, I discussed snow tires,
I want to be prepared for a winter in Vermont —
A snowy winter.

I’m buying ski clothes on the internet.
Renting rooms,
Emailing friends
“I’ll be there”

I have a job
A place to sleep,
A friend to confide in when it gets too cold.

But when people ask if I’m ready for this winter,
They aren’t asking if I have snow tires.

They’re asking if I’m nervous I’ll run into you.
“Is he going back there this winter, too?”
“I think so,” I say
“Will you see him?”
“Not on purpose”
“and what will you do?”
