Consensus 2018: Day 2 Recap

Coinbase opens door for institutional money with creation of Coinbase Custody while CFTC Enforcer doesn’t want regulation to “hinder innovation.” Circle to create its own crypto pegged to the US dollar.

Day 2 of Consensus is finished and below is the top news of the day:

Top News:

-Coinbase launches Coinbase Custody, which aims to serve institutional investors. In order to utilize Coinbase Custody, users need to have a minimum of $10 million in deposits. Coinbase has safely secured over $20 billion worth of coins calling it “the most secure crypto storage available.” This product allows large institutional investors to feel safe buying and storing their crypto.

-According to a study conducted by Deloitte, about 75% of large companies across multiple industries (companies with at least $500 million in sales per year), see a “compelling business case” for blockchain technology.

–Ledger announces a partnership with Nomura and Global Advisors. Their aim is to “overcome barriers to institutional investment in digital assets.”

-0X (ZRX) releases 0X protocol V2.0, with launch date projected to be in July 2018. This update brings many updates, most notably new smart contract architecture and more efficient order matching.

-Update on FedEx CEO’s comments from Day 1 by Lesia Dubenko

-CFTC Enforcer, James McDonald, says “Our mission is to foster financially sound markets, and we understand as a regulator that requires a certain amount of [flexibility] in our approach. We’re doing it in a way that doesn’t hinder innovation and doesn’t interfere with other regulatory priorities.”

–Circle raises $110 million in an investment round led by Bitmain Technologies. Also announced its summer plans to create a new cryptocurrency pegged to the US dollar, USD Coin (USDC).

Noteable News:

-Ethereum Classic (ETC) announces an Incubator Platform on the ETC network

-DNV, Norway based organization, partners with VeChain in order to store supply chain management data and in the future build a supply chain product for DNV customers

-Via Bitpay, Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) can now be used to pay Seminole County, Florida taxes.

-eToro, a social investing platform and wallet, announces it will expand its borders to include US citizens. The platform supports BTC, ETH, BCH, LTC, XRP, DASH, ETC, XLM, NEO, and EOS.

-Skychain, a blockchain based network, is releasing the alpha version of their infrastructure in the coming weeks. They believe their AI, ANNs, can help hospitals and healthcare providers diagnose patients and prescribe the appropriate prescriptions.

-Ripple launches Xpring to provide support for startups who use Ripple cryptocurrency, XRP.

-Enigma demonstrated their privacy oriented protocol for the first time publically.

-Komodo announces Litecoin (LTC) pairings to be traded on BarterDEX.

-IBM and Veridium, an environmental technology company, have teamed together in order to create a carbon credits token on top of Stellar Lumens (XLM).
