J.K Rowling Asks About Bitcoin: Simplifying Cryptocurrency
One of the world’s famous writer and author of all-time bestselling and award-winning novel titled “Harry Potter”, took to her Twitter handle with a mainstream audience of over fourteen million people on May 15th to inquire about the general concept of Bitcoin and what it meant. Her exact words were: “I don’t understand Bitcoin. Please explain it to me.” As expected, we saw an influx of thousands of replies to her tweet. For starters, the tweet came as a shock to most people. Who’d have thought that the great J.K Rowling, an intelligent and successful writer would have any problem at all with understanding the concept of #cryptocurrency and Bitcoin technology? Anyways, she was dealt more than a handful of responses from both the learners, users and even professionals. Different opinions were aired on the subject. Suffice it to say that the content dropped in form of replies if properly reviews would form a textbook. But, guess what? Even with the bull of information relayed on the subject, the poor author could not fully appreciate the concept. She opened up to her fans still and made a follow-up tweet which was captioned thus: “God bless every single one of you now earnestly explaining #bitcoin to me as though I’ll grasp it if you break it down properly. Things like this are like white noise to me. I cannot and will not understand Bitcoin, but I love you for thinking that I can or will”. This tweet was a shocker to even more people who had so much high expectations from the author. Because of this, the tween received even more backlash as people were obviously not happy that the author couldn’t relate with any of the many explanations rendered in the thread.

This incidence clearly portrays the plight of the regular bystander on Google, Bing, or any other site that wants to get accustomed to crypto and its workings in the financial system. Come to think of it, if a bestselling author of one of the most successful novels in the history of literature could not understand the concept despite the volume of information disseminated by thousands of people, then what is the hope of the common user who wants to learn more?
Indeed there is still a lot of WOR to be done on the subject of educating people about crypto and making it accessible and acceptable. In as much as the idea of crypto is widely spread, a lot of people simply know that it is a medium of exchange worth far more than many fiat #currencies. They do not know how to purchase, create a wallet, or even store crypto.
In order to sensitize such a community of persons, we must engage the use of simple explanations and practice-based examples as opposed to mere theoretical explanations. Also, people should be told how to get #crypto from trusted sites; so they don’t get scammed and lose interest completely.
