Blockchain can prevent delays in payment for products delivered by SMEs: report

Smart contracts based on blockchain technology can effectively prevent delays in payments for delivered goods and make it impossible to unilaterally alter original contracts, a local think tank said Sunday.

The report by Korea Small Business Institute said blockchains can open new horizons for how small and medium enterprises conduct business with their larger contractors.

Blockchain, often associated with cryptography and virtual currency, is considered an incorruptible digital ledger that can document all kinds of transactions and data. The system is designed for a wide range of data sharing among a vast number of computers that are all linked together in a "chain" that theoretically cannot be tampered with.

Venezuela says it raises 5 bln USD from cryptocurrency presale

CARACAS, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Friday that the presale of the country's cryptocurrency "Petro", which will finish on March 20, has already raised over 5 billion U.S. dollars.

"I was looking at the numbers of the Petro and there are thousands of offers. We have in our hands over 5 billion U.S. dollars, offered in the presale of the Petro in barely a week," he said.

Upon offering assurances that the price of Venezuelan oil, the main backer of the cryptocurrency, is "stable", Maduro said that "this will allow us to stabilize international purchases, and to grow and strengthen international reserves."

"The Petro is part of the path of economic solutions from here to the future," said Maduro, adding that he felt "very happy, very hopeful, very optimistic."

Winklevoss Twins’ Crypto Trading Platform Gemini to Add Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin

Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have confirmed that they are planning on adding more tokens to their cryptocurrency trading platform Gemini Exchange. The billionaire twins shed light on this expansion plan at an event hosted by Chicago-based Cboe Global Markets Inc.

Currently, Gemini’s trading platform supports only two digital assets: Bitcoin and ethereum.

The announcement holds significance for Cboe too because it will introduce additional options at their disposal. Naturally, the Chicago company looks to offer futures contracts on digital currencies other than just bitcoin.

Cboe and Gemini are locked in a strategic partnership, which is why the futures exchange adds new coins following the Winklevoss’s exchange. As such, the arrangement between the companies makes Cboe dependent on Gemini’s pricing data for bitcoin contracts.

Thailand Dodges Extreme Cryptocurrency Regulations

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister has mandated that the law on cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings be finalized within a month. The regulators have met and agreed that there is no need to invoke the country’s controversial Section 44 law but to introduce a “special law” for them instead.
