7 cities resolutely pro-cryptocurrency
As governments around the world struggle to understand and regulate cryptocurrencies, these seven cities seem to be embracing them in their financial ecosystems.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong is becoming a flagship location for ICOs. It has hosted several successful ICOs like AirSwap, which raised $ 36 million and Gatcoin, which raised $ 14.5 million. As China banned ICOs , companies rushed to Hong Kong to issue their ICOs. So far, there are no specific rules regarding ICOs and the Hong Kong authorities have adopted a favorable position with regard to cryptocurrencies. Hong Kong Financial Services has also publicly stated that cryptocurrencies are not a threat .
Cheyenne
The capital of Wyoming would like to become the cryptocurrency capital of the United States . Numerous cryptocurrency laws have been put in place in the state of Wyoming. Gains in cryptocurrency are notably exempt from taxation by the State.
Singapore
According to Juniper Research, Singapore is ranked as the smartest city in the world , so cryptocurrencies seem to be a natural choice. Rankings are based on connected objects in four key areas: health, mobility, public safety and productivity. Singapore has been ranked number one in all four categories.
Nashville
When you think of Tennessee, you probably do not think about technological innovation. Yet Governor Bill Haslam has enacted a bill that legally recognizes blockchain and smart-contracts . The adoption of this bill is a giant leap towards the widespread use of blockchain in many areas : legal, real estate, health care. Tennessee hopes this law will attract new businesses based on the blockchain.
Phoenix
Arizona has a monumental bill underway. This law would allow taxpayers to pay their taxes with cryptocurrencies. This would set a precedent that would be hard to ignore and would be a big step towards the adoption of cryptocurrencies. Jeff Weninger, representative of the state of Arizona , said about the payment of taxes in bitcoin : "In a few years, it will not be an issue anymore. "
Amsterdam
Venice of the North is becoming a major city for cryptocurrency and blockchain startups. The city is home to a Bitcoin embassy and also hosts the Bitcoin Film Festival, which features films on bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies.
Zug
Zug is known as "Crypto Valley" . The Swiss has long been regarded as a tax haven. It is therefore not surprising that the small town of Zug, with 30,000 inhabitants, has become one of the most welcoming "crypto-cities" in the world . Zug is home to the Ethereum Foundation and is the second largest city for ICOs.
